Jordan Peele's Get Out received huge critical acclaim for his take on a horror film. I traditionally don't care for horror films. Not because they scare me...they bore me. I need to feel the horror, the terror.
I like Jordan Peele. I like his comedy, I like what he has to say. So, 8 years after the movie's premiere and raining of accolades, with it withering on my Tubi watchlist, I gave it a shot.
A bit over one hour in, I was bored and not scared or even interested anymore. The production and the script were very good but the story left me wanting. People unwittingly winding up in a precarious situation is a time honored horror trope and not that interesting. I turned it off and gave a rating of 3 out of 10 stars on IMDB.
Out of curiosity, I revisited it this evening, picking up where I left off just short of the end of the second act. That's when I recognized it.
I am aware of Peele's administration of The Twilight Zone. I chalked this film up to that. Shortly after continuing to watch, I recognized the stark similarities to a 1962 B movie called The Brain That Wouldn't Die. My interest was piqued. At that point, whether intentionally or even ignorantly on the part of the filmmaker, I was seeing a crafty expansion of a plot, both on a social and political scale that escalated a 1962 treadmill schlock into a thoughtful film.
There can even be made a comparison to The Stepford Wives, Tourist Trap and, strange as it sounds, Nothing But Trouble.
That said...Get Out is unique in its production and execution. But I never felt scared. WATCH THIS MOVIE!!

What a politically driven, not even thinly veiled piece of garbage this is. FIRST, and foremost, DeNiro is the LAST actor to headline ANY film. His credibility is completely SHOT. Why? Because all you see is DeNiro. Could someone, ANYONE, tackle the performing bear on a bicycle and just send them out to stud? He has not been anything other than DeNiro in 25+ years.
This political commercial is embarrassing to the viewers as well as the hanger on actors whose phones aren't exactly ringing off the hook for work.
There is a hint of a story, an angle here. It is so convoluted by Hollywood politics and direct to video script, direction and acting that even Faust is Tweeting, "Your agent sucks. #Pandering #ThismoviehasbeenmadebeforebutWWAYYbetter#IdontcarehowmanymoviesyoumadewithScorsese.
Knee jerk Hollywood has blown a golden opportunity...and not even the way Hollywood likes to be blown.

The cast, on paper, is stellar. That was the only reason I wanted to watch it. Peter Dinklage, Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei, M. Emmet Walsh. Didn't bother with the trailer. It's a layup. Then...it happened.
A director I've never heard of, not a problem, that's how new cinema reinvigorates you, was WOWWED about casting phenomenal actors that have comedic chops.
Meanwhile, a screenwriter raised on a steady diet of There's Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber serves up a script with copycat raunchiness, stunted character development and the best dialogue that cut and paste can deliver, serves up a script that the director thinks his cast, which has no measurable experience in successfully delivering such material on Day 1 of shooting.
The alleged comedy is forced. The director and cast delivers notes from tone deaf ears and 34 minutes of this was enough to make me admit I made a mistake.
