This is a typical 'you love it or you do not grasp it'-movie. You've got to be patient, you've got to love the slow pace of this very original movie, that is beautifully made. It has a universal human message in it's correct and you have to give it some time (approximately a tricky quarter of an hour...) to let it enter your heart and soul. The score is very supportive and has the same relaxing effect as the storyline. Good acting, strong underlying relational and love story, great directing and camera work, the movie becomes stronger and stronger towards the and... and towards The Beginning. Give it a chance!
A special message for all those '1970 - Albert Finney - Scrooge' lovers that are serving this one off: give this animated version a second chance. Watching it the first time, I found myself continuously comparing it with my favorite version (1970, obviously). Then this one will loose, of course. But watching it the second time, giving myself over and giving in to this remake - including six original and beautiful Leslie Bricusse songs - I recognized the same spirit as is present in the 1970-version. Yes, you will have to get used to the animated, sometimes anime-like characters, to semi-sci-fi, to the vivid colours and to the voices that sometimes do not seem to match with what you see on screen. But you will get rewarded: Scrooge's conversion is a feast to watch. Open your heart and enjoy! Happy X-mas.
Natural and convincing acting, catchy story that holds it's tension very well. Dialogues, images and music form each other perfectly in this rather gripping series.
