I rented this earlier in the week not expecting much with nothing to lose. Pleasantly surprised. This film is more funny than it is scary, my favorite story being the 3rd, but the main actor in the 4th story was my favorite player in the entire film (yes I liked him better than even Tony Todd).
BTW, I am hardcore fan of the original film since '96. I can recite that entire movie, and I watch it atleast 3 times a year. I didnt dig the 2nd film much at all, but this 3rd I liked so much that I found myself thinking about it st work the next morning, then I went back to redbox a couple nights later and bought it, then watched it again. Just sayin' so you know this isnt a BS account created to boost ratings. You can check all my reviews, ratings, and history on this website since the early 2000's.
Praises to Cundieff and Scott and the entire cast / crew involved. It has definitely brightened my mood in these COVID times.

Nick Cage saves this from being garbage, but still this film does not compare to the old when concerning the character of the "Bad Lieutenant".
The movie also drags on too long and could of been cut shorter. Val Kilmer is also in this and is fun to watch as well, along with Brad Dourif.
This serves as a good appetizer before watching the original by the master A. Ferrara.

This is inferior, let me repeat, completely INFERIOR make to the thatrical. You almost feel bad for George C. Scott (RIP), his "restored" scenes with lousy lighting making him look more like a sad bloodhound who is the lost cousin of the true George C. Scott in the superior original version (The Exorcist III), but you somehow got duped into paying 30$ into watching the lost bloodhound inferior version of this film rather than just re-watching the original..... so you are an idiot for feeling bad for the sad, inferior bloodhound.
Brad Dourif's "restored" scenes are purely laughable. "Father Karras" is not in this version, and whenever the cut scenes come into play, it really throws off the flow this movie is known for, also making it less creepy. They do not mix well into the movie at all.
In conclusion, this "director's cut" is a pathetic, waste of money. You can see why this was not the original release if you bother watching it, so if you are bored enough to waste sometime or for completist' sake, download it or borrow it, do not make the same mistake I did by buying it, and the original is one of my all time favorite films and book.
Examples of of movies that had GOOD directors cuts: Natural Born Killers, Lord of Illusions, Eyes Wide Shut.
