What a great harmony in the beginning and the ending of the film. The main character seems to be taken from a real life profession. The story has been staged in such a way that it can be said 'based on true facts'. All this is feasible only when such project done by an expert. And Federico Fellini has proved many times before making this movie that he is one of the best in this line.
The protagonist is a lonely struggling woman in the most hated and neglected profession in the society, a prostitute. Whatever the profession, she also has some dreams, some desire for a beautiful life. But she has no rushing behind the dreams, just agility to spend the life conventionally. But is the life pass by conventionally?
A fluent and lively performance in the role of a prostitute, it seems that no one could have done better than Giulietta Masina.

Drawing a pistol in twinkling of an eye, a hole in the center of forehead or a bullet made ventilation system through the chest of enemy, lots of gunfire or gunman show. Yes, I'm talking about an western movie. This one is an western too but not the ordinary one.
Story is very simple. During the period of colonial settlement of US in 17th century, the effect of harsh settlement in unknown rude lands and unhealthy lifestyle made people mentally disordered. Responsibility of transporting of such mad three ladies from Nebraska to far east Iowa for treatment has imposed on Mary Bee Cuddy (Hilary Swank) by incidents, who's bachelor but pious, open-minded but bossy. For this, Mary has to travel long rude prairie in winter where she may be attacked by bandits or Indians. Incidentally, she got a partner George Briggs (Tommy Lee Jones) who's a low-life drifter. Have they completed their mission successfully? To get the answer, you have to watch the movie till the end.
The main appeal of this movie is surely the acting of main two characters Hilary Swank and Tommy Lee Jones. Whether directing the movie by Tommy himself is also remarkable . And another important thing of this movie is its visual appeal. Filming the rude prairie was so stunning and awesome.
FYI: One can get any kind of feeling after watching, may be one can enjoy much or so so or may be boring But I enjoyed it

This movie managed to catch my attention because it's the cinematic adaption of the great novel of Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay's 'Chander Pahar'. But to be honest, the movie is an insult for an interesting story written on the book.
Romantic hero Dev ruined the adventure mood from the very beginning of the movie till the end by his ridicules acting. From start to end, you can find lots of unnecessary scene, false information about real African geography and director's lack of sense as making an adventure movie.
Some plots are really ridicules as rail station manager Dev waves flag after train leaving the station, Dev and Rudolf carrying a small bag each on their search of diamond mountain but always spend their nights under tents with furniture like tables, chairs, lots of oil lamps and cookeries. It's funny during conversations between two main characters as one speaks while another replies using another language most of the time.
Lacking of any thrill, watching this movie is totally waste of time. It's neither an adventure movie nor a documentary.
