The Philadelphia Story revived Katharine Hepburn's career..Hepburn had performed the play on Broadway for over a year and bought the film rights with the help of her ex boyfriend, Howard Hughes and enlisted her favorite director, George Cukor and her favorite co-star Cary Grant to work on the film with her. With Jimmy Stewart as the reporter and many fine supporting actors...especially Virginia Weidler playing her sister the film was ready to roll..
I have seen this film many times and have just recently acquired it on DVD and I must say that I really find this film a treat! One of my favorite scenes in the film is the scene with Hepburn and Stewart near the end of the film..Jimmy's speech about "hearthfires and holocausts" pretty much secured his well deserved academy award..
I'm just a classic film buff at heart..I love TCM and whenever I rent or purchase DVDs I always seem to gravitate toward older films...
Katharine Hepburn is absolutely lovely and pure class in this movie and Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart never looked better!!

I have always been a big fan of Jodie Foster..As an actress Jodie exudes intelligence, grace and a deep understanding of the characters that she plays..Jodie reminds me of Katharine Hepburn in her prime...
In this film Jodie runs the gamut of emotions and displays an uncanny devotion to her character. There are many emotional moments in the film and although long, I found the film entertaining..
The scenery and sets are magnificent but, what drew me to this film was the acting talent..particularly Jodie and Chow Yun Fat. Chow Yun Fat displays a remarkable sense of opulence in his role and his interpretation of the King of Siam is quite interesting! I read somewhere that the film was a disappointment at the box office but considering the direction mainstream film is heading these days I truly wonder what the demographics of film going audiences are..
I, personally like a good story with actors who truly care about their craft and I found this to be the case in Anna and the King..

I have always been a big fan of Zhang Zimou, the director of this film. I have seen several of his films..To Live, Raise the Red Lantern and most recently Hero. The Road Home is a sensitive and beautiful film centering on the story of the courtship between between a young country girl and a teacher..The story is simple yet poignant and the actors are wonderful! The scenery is breathtaking and Zhang tells the story in a hushed tone and lets it unwind to it's emotionally wrenching conclusion..I highly recommend this movie for the culture, the story and the wonderfully understated acting..such a refreshing change of pace from the "in your face" mainstream films of today...
