surprisingly salaeble last year but comments went very extreme. perhaps hong kong's undergoing a transformation in culture. to those who in it find nothing enjoyable may also find nothing funny and even feel uncomfortable in this comedy. there seems to be a stab at the traditional value although not so sharp is it. so no wonder some people really get riled with its style. but something traditional or conventional is still preserved. like Pretty Woman, the love story offers a every-girl dream - a charming, rich and loyal boy friend. quite entertaining and some parts even moving. reason of course is not the main concern. in fact everything goes crazy. but can audiences other than those living here can grasp the humour ??? that's a question. perhaps it can be viewed as a key to understand the philosophy of new generation. the style reminds me of Johnny English. so take it easy. it's a nice comedy but please don't expect too much. 5/10
This movie reminds me of Harry Potter - not the style but the marketing strategy. There may be part 2 , part three...until one day the product life cycle finishs, of course on the condition that the part one has a commercial success. so many things seems to be hidden and thus the story looks quite incomplete. the action design is boring. set design is ok but not fine. perhaps Edison Chen would be a big star one day. He really looks charming even on big screen. The most impressive is still Anthony Wong. 4/10
i'm not a big fan of action movie and thus nothing disappoints me in this new work of Lee. in fact i find it quite interesting. the action is impressive. i like the camera works also. the description to characters is ok, especially the inner world of scientists, although i would be happier if it can go a bit deeper. of course it's still much deeper than movies like Matrix Reloaded. perhaps it's no easy task to keep a balance between certain commercial elements and Lee's style. i'm not saying that Lee can't make a commercial-success movie. Crouching Tiger is an example. it's not the best work of Lee but certainly worth seeing. but of course please don't expect something like T2. 7/10
