Everson doesn't make films that fit neatly into how Americans love films. His films do not sync sound. There is no "main character". They are detached examination of black working class life in America. His films are beautiful and poetic. Tonsler Park is those things.
It's 80 minutes of voyeuristic examination of 2016 presidential polling location in Charlottesville, VA. The film, I believe, challenges many negative stereotypes of how black Americans engage in voting.
The filmmaking is not traditional nor does it follow more recognizable filmmaking techniques. If that's the type of film you're looking: protagonist that has clear cut goal with decisive victory and possible romance, this film is not that. It's shot on B&W film and has no readily discernible arc, and that's the beauty of the film.
