Myra Hindley died three years after this documentary was released, but she had already been surplanted as Britain's most notorious female killer by Rosemary West. Even so, she remained the most hated. Herein we hear from the still grieving mothers of her and Brady's victims as well as Peter Topping, the man who led the investigation.
True crime buffs will be familiar with the later developments, including the games Brady played with the police, and Hindley's attempts to portray herself as an accessory after the facts if not entirely innocent, but the one surprising thing here are the crime scene photographs of their last victim and a photograph of the young girl they tortured at 16 Wardle Brook Avenue.
There have been many far worse monsters since, but the fascination for this particular killer couple is likely to continue long after many of their successors have been buried and forgotten.

This South African documentary covers the crimes of Jimmy Maketta, a none-too-bright but incredibly depraved serial killer Depraved and eclectic, he murdered men as well as women, and raped the latter. Although he raped and murdered three women in March 1996, July 1998 and December 1999, it wasn't until April 2005 that his crime spree really began, with the rape of a woman who was lucky to survive, and who appears in this film, followed by a rape/murder.
As these crimes were all committed in a rural area and he doesn't appear to have owned a vehicle, it is difficult to see how he wasn't put in the frame sooner; the police even arrested another suspect who turned out to be totally innocent of any crime. Eventually he was caught because he left his phone at a crime scene.
When he pleaded guilty in May 2007, he was given a 25 year sentence, which does seem unduly lenient, but according to a contemporaneous press report, when he has completed that sentence, he will be taken back to court and given another 25 years.

The suffering of the Palestinian people throughout the second half of the Twentieth Century and now well into the Twenty-First has been thoroughly documented by many film-makers, most of them less partisan than Abby Martin.
Leaving her politics aside, this is a fine effort that exposes the at times unbridled sadism of Israeli snipers and much more. She says little about the birth of Israel, but although she does not make the mistake of claiming there was a war of independence, she gives the impression that if the Zionist terrorists responsible for it had targeted only the British, they would have been justified.
What she doesn't say though is just as important as what she does say, for example, she says Israel banned the import of construction materials into Gaza. The world found out why after the massacres of October 2023 when it was revealed that Hamas had constructed an underground tunnel system to rival the London Underground. These tunnels were for purely military purposes. Martin may not have known about these tunnels then, but her refusal to condemn the massacre shows her in her true colours.
The situation in Gaza has of course worsened considerably since then.
Another thing she doesn't mention is the fact that not all the destruction therein was caused by Israel.
Watch this film, by all means, but be aware that it is half humanitarian appeal and half propaganda document.
