I was very excited for this movie. Jennifer Lawrence is the quintessential crazy woman whose body of work is on perfect display, and the poster looks breaktakingly chaotic. Massive hype.
I start the movie and immediately am hit with arthouse vibes, and not the good kind. The bad kind. The REALLY REALLY bad kind. I turned it off at the 10 min mark last night and came on here to double check if it somehow gets better. From the reviews it very evidently does not. There's no chance in hell I am gonna watch another minute of this "movie".

Running scared really stood out to me when I first watched it in 2006 as an intensely violent and brutal movie. But what I didn't expect was the surprising way the story is told. This is far from a one dimensional action flick.
The standard mobster and cop storyline is interlaced with an incredibly disturbing and twisted series of children's fairy tales, which elevates the whole thing up to something Tarantino himself loved. It honestly made me very sad this movie didn't do better than it should have, because deviating from the norm is such a risky thing to do in Hollywood only reserved for the truly creative and brave.
Running Scared might not have done well in the box office, but it's high score here on IMDB is a testament to how genius this piece of art is.
Can't recommend it enough.

Companion is the perfect example of the state of Hollywood as a whole. This movie has a 7/10 on IMDB which is relatively high, and I absolutely love Sophie Thatcher from The Yellowjackets. Seemed like a slam dunk choice to watch, but I found myself getting more and more bored the longer the movie trailed on.
It's not exactly like Companion is a bad movie. There's just nothing special about it whatsoever. Every single aspect of the movie feels like it's lacking any true inspiration and artistic direction. Everything is just lukewarm and there's no real shock and awe.
Hollywood movies recently have been in quite a slump since the pandemic, and this kind of movie getting such a high score on here makes total sense that something this mediocre could pass off as a great movie.
