Like most of us, I've been a fan of the world of dinos since childhood. Even as an adult I have imagined living alone in that world, what structure would be best, where, even the weather of the supercontinent prior to tectonic drift... I love prehistory, so I have loved this franchise ever since hearing T-Rex in the very first jurassic park.
That said, while there have been some real sub par renditions in the franchise, this latest one feels like an early AI wrote the script and no one else touched it. It was just so bad, I was counting down the time until it was over, regretting the time I'd already spent committing myself.
I like Gareth Edwards. He's a talented director, evident in his film "Monsters". I just wish this flick had some of the same humanity, the same smartness. Nope. Sure its supposed to be summer fodder and you're meant to turn off your brain and enjoy the ride. Sadly, Jurassic World: Rebirth requires a full frontal lobotomy so the flickering lights are the only thing that register. The islands of the Jurassic franchise needs to be nuked from orbit.

I will revisit this film maybe every 4 or 5 years, each time surprised how I fall into the world, the taste and temperature of it.
Crudup and Morton are as tragic and wonderful and in love on screen as any film couple I can remember, I adore her and I want to beat some sense into crudup's head... the way you want to save a wayward friend.
This film is a reminder what vision and talent can accomplish, even on a small budget. No, this isn't hollywood slapdashery moviemaking, this is artists and lovers of the medium and the human heart bleeding out for the craft. Did I already mention how much I adore samantha morton here? Like a wounded beautiful bird with brown feathers that glisten rainbow in the sun... she breaks my heart in the best way... in this film.

Its one of those films that will have you sitting after the end credits, thinking about what you've seen, the meaning of things, the role of faith and belief and the spaces between what you know and what you couldnt even imagine.
Of late, I've been very hard on christianity. Its felt more of a show... theater for the desperate looking for order. Conclave reminded me that there have been a millenium and more of this ritual, so much so that its as much a part of us as our mother tongue. All the cardinals from around the world bound by one faith and yet all too human and flawed (or perfect in their flawed state).
Its thoughts like these that Conclave stirred in me. This was no light fare, not a netflix and chill movie (unless you are a fan of Umberto Ecco or conversing on the meaning of god on the paths we choose is your pillow talk!).
All actors were great, none were lacking. Shots were fantastic... all the way to the last closing door. Highly recommend.
