The English are at it again with their over-the-top antics and utterly unrealistic events. While I've always had a soft spot for Guy Ritchie's signature style - the snappy dialogue, the fast cuts, the eccentric characters - this time it all falls flat. The film feels more like a parody of real cinema than a fresh take. There's little substance behind the movie, and the plot veers into the absurd far too often. I wanted to enjoy it, but by the end, I was just waiting for the credits. Sadly, this one belongs in the garbage tip. I'd expect much more of Ritchie given his past masterpieces. Two stars.
The usual ex-marine/delta/special forces/ army/navy etc good guy who retired long ago meets bad guys after a friend/family member/old mate gets something bad done to them. An old formula that won't go away. In a word "wet". I thought Statham was in a better place than this. A bunch of werewolves with bad make-up and a poor sense of smell, even one who flies, are out for dinner on a special night. The director uses all the tricks, eg flashing lights, camera all over the place, confusing story scenes, bad acting. This flop started off pretty bad, ended like it had been written by a child and the middle was rubbish. Frank Grillo is up to his usual standard of "acting" believing bulging veins in bulging arms is going to save him. Only relatives of the bad actors will put up with this movie. I can't see why anyone would put their name on the credits. Zero stars. Glad I didn't pay to see it.
