I watched the movie because of the stars - Kamal Hasan and Madhavan. I do not understand Tamil, yet the movie has been so well made that at times you do not feel that you need the dialogs.
In brief, the movie shows two extremely different characters who are forced to spend time together due to circumstances.
The movie tends to slow down in the middle, when it goes into the flashback of Kamal Hasan's life. However, for the most part, it is a pretty sensible piece of art - something that is a rarity in Bollywood. The movie could have been shorter - and that is the only complaint that I have. Otherwise, it is a brilliant idea that has been executed to near perfection.
Kamal Hasan - as always - excels. Madhavan is great, too. The music score was really good.
A must see!

I have always seen Saif Ali Khan as one of the most talented stars of Indian cinema. He is one of the actors who underwent enormous transformation in his career, and is today one of the rare entities in Bollywood who have style with even more substance.
Being Cyrus is not his best performance till date. And yet, it will probably always be remembered as one of his memorable roles because of the dark shades to his character.
The movie boasts of an incredible line of greats from Indian cinema, and a pretty good storyline. I will refrain from making any reference to the storyline since it is bound to give away something about the movie.
Overall, an enjoyable movie and something that you will probably want to watch more than once!

I will not discuss the story here - you should watch it :-), but will discuss some things that I really liked about the movie.
The portrayal of characters is very well thought of. Even a superstar like Aamir Khan is not given any special "footage". He, and his friends represents the youth of India - who is struggling to build a future for himself, is frustrated by the system, and the inability to do anything about it. The director's idea - though dramatic -is executed so well that you believe that this is easily possible in real life.
The portrayal of Indian culture - the visit to Punjab and the Golden Temple are simply done in a classy manner. The whole serenity, majesty and elegance of the culture is visible without being loud.
One of the things that really impressed me was that the movie depicted our great freedom fighters as figures of inspiration. And this is done without showing a slightest hint of jingoism or any slur or deprecating statement to any foreign country! The message is clear - the fault in the system is our joint responsibility - and we have enough super heroes in our history to look up to.
The direction is great and editing is of highest quality. One of the real strengths of the movie is the *impact* it tends to leave on you by the time you are done watching it.
