I did a 3 day marathon of watching the taped series from first episode to the last season (when Nate goes under anesthesia) so I am a little panicky about wanting to watch the continuing saga. I MUST get HBO!! Anyway, the series has been remarkably good and the only gripe I have is that it sometimes can be repetitive (suggesting the writers are getting a little lazy). I got a little tired of how people constantly snap cruely at each other; how many times did I hear,"Mind your own f**king business!". Sometimes the writing started becoming similar to ER and other shows that start to run dry of ideas so they will have a character saying something or doing something that would not be in character. David's character suggests that he would NEVER tell his mother,"mind your own f**king business". Simultaneously, the same thing was said on "Queer As folk"...Harshness for the sake of snappy writing. I am also getting tired of seeing every guest character be just a little eccentric while the main characters roll their eyes as if THEY are the only ones with any sense. Anyway, David and Keith's "relationship" IS getting tired and Keith's character is just a little too stereotyped (how many times have we seen a character such as his on ER?...just asking. So the problem becomes when a writer runs out of ideas, but the character must remain on the show, so they make mistakes in the writing and then try and correct it and it gets really obvious. Anyway, I say that David should dump Keith and play the field more, which would be a whole lot more interesting (his constant disappointments in love). Even though I love Brenda's character, her character has run its course in relation to the main characters. Sad, but the problem was in the writing wasn't it?...

I was just thinking about the series and wondered why it has yet to be on the Nick or TV Land channels. This series was truly among the very best. Many of the episodes dealt with many issues that are still very relevant today. I especially liked the episode where the mother decides to take a day off from all the housework and cooking and treat herself to some new sights and sounds and how shocked the family is that the "routine" of things is upset. I saw Elinor on E! the other night by the way. I am looking forward to seeing this series air again somewhere.

Yes, yet again ABC has broadcast this monumental epic. Proving as time goes by, THIS movie is greater than all the rest. I just watched "BEN-HUR" on TCM this morning and it can boast the great chariot race and oscar winning visual effects, but nothing on the par with the over the top visuals of "The Ten Commandments". I was lucky enough to see this film on a wide screen in 1972. The greatest sequence in film History has to be the stupendous spectacle of the red sea. The clouds rolling in, Pharoah and his army approaching, the waters slowly starting to become turbulent. Then the formation of the "pillar of fire". The initial parting of the red sea was just one of the eye-popping visuals of this sequence. The many different shots of the walls of churning water were truly an amazing feat of matte photography. The closing of the sea certainly proves (as one viewer said) that was REAL WATER!! This sequence alone is worth the marathon viewing time leading up to it..see it on DVD!!
