Quite why this has a above average score is beyond me. I've been watching Janet Gaynor films in order from her first feature film in 1926, and this one is easily her worst film so far.
Bar the family farm scenes where the acting is natural and charming with her parents and brother, both sets of romance couple scenes are badly over-acted and there is zero chemistry between Rogers and Gaynor, rendering the main part of the film dull and lifeless.
Other than the fact nearly a third of the film is pointless and dreary pig exhibitions and pickle judging this is one film i will certainly never be watching again!

There are a handful of films you have to watch from each decade purely based on word of mouth, this was another.
I had started watching silents from the late 1800's to learn and watch film grow in acting, film making and editing.
Whilst this film has some nice moments, the down points are, any real lack of dialogue in storyboards. Alot of scenes are dramatically overacted, it feels like a late 1910's film in that regard, not a decade later.
And the whole film is too slow paced, i mean how long does it take for someone to leave the room once they have stood up! I know it's for dramatic effect, but there are too many scenes like this, and it's not just because it's a 1920's film, as said above, other films had moved on from this slow style and were better paced by this point in cinema history.
Worth the watch the once (obviously has it's fans for Louise) but you do find yourself wishing it would speed up on multiple occasion's, and there is not enough drama, emotion or empathy for the characters to warrant a return visit.

Having never seen a Star Trek movie (or even TV episode for that matter) i went into this 'reboot' with no expectations or ill feelings, as i understand such films can divide fans of said franchise.
My overall impressions were, 'it's not bad', ok, that doesn't sound too good a review, but i came away thinkings that was 'alright', nothing more, nothing less.
The cast and special effects were all decent, and i can appreciate from a non-fan view, this film is set before the events of the very first series. It was pretty simple to grasp who was to become who, i mean i haven't been under a rock the last 40 years! I obviously know some characters even without seeing an episode, so it wasn't a problem following the story in that regard.
The start of the film was really good and had me guessing if that was Kirk at that point at least! But certainly it was a dramatic and emotional start to the film. But after that, following Kirk felt a little short in places, and felt rushed to fulfil the part of the story to get him onboard.
I felt the main part of the storyline was a bit basic and seemed to shoved into the gap around showing how the characters came to be rather than anything else.
Zachary Quinton was superb as Spock, although Simon Pegg came across as too comical as his character (ironically).
