Decent film with another great Vincent Gallo performance. Amazing that Francis Ford Coppola was smart enough to cast Gallo in one of his films. What a great pairing. A couple of very weak Argentine actors muffle the films potential and they seem like bad TV actors at times. Especially next to Vincent Gallo. The actor Rodrigo de la Serna was especially weak and cartoonish and his scenes made it hard to believe it was a Coppola film. With all due respect to the cast, having a great actor like Gallo in his film, FF Coppola should have chosen a better leading lady. Ms Verdu was out of her league with Gallo. Alden Ehrenreich wasn't bad.
I saw the film back during its release and just recently re-watched it. It's aging well but it is even more clear without Vincent Gallo it would have been a three star movie.

Calling this Vincent Gallo's best and most original film is a very big statement. Considering both Buffalo 66 and The Brown Bunny are both brilliant masterpieces and completely original. However this film is unlike anything ever made by anyone. The story is complex, deep and feels like it was adapted from a thousand page classic novel. Yet the film itself feels like a minimal portrait. As well it is the best looking black and white film I've ever seen in my life. Vincent Gallo composed and performed the original soundtrack which is simple, jazzy, very lyrical, very beautiful and highly effective. Gallo's editing is unlike anyone else and like The Brown Bunny the film is pieced together in a way unlike all the other standard cinema of today. I am very very lucky to have seen this film. And in today's very dry creative world Vincent Gallo is a very odd rare phenomenon.
This short conceptual drama is highly original and beautiful. Gallo and Stallone are both flawless. Vincent Gallo composed and performed the soundtrack which is extremely good. Ive never seen anything like it and wish I could see it again and again.
