I knew going in that this was a German Movie that Netflix had overdubbed. I don't like Foreign Movies overdubbed with English and I'll tell you why. It drives me crazy when the words being spoken don't match the actor's mouth movements, it really drives me nuts. But I knew that Matthias Schweighöfer and Ruby O. Fee were in it and I really liked them and their chemistry in Army Of Thieves. I was really impressed with the two of them and more so the fact that Matthias starred in and directed the movie. And I have seen a few recent Foreign films Netflix has overdubbed and they seemed like they were getting better at it.
So I was willing to give it a chance and overlook any overflubbing, I mean overdubbing that might be...ummm.....a little off. The overdubbing on this one should be called overflubbing, absolutely horrible. Terrible, the audio was way off from the actor's actual mouth movements and gestures. In some spots they aren't even talking and yet you hear them talk.........ok, you get the point on the overflubbing, I mean overdubbing. Now on to the acting.......
Terrible, talk about overacting.... Frederick Lau as Marvin was horrible, overly dramatic and heavily overacted. Murathon Muslu as Yuri comes a close second to Frederick's performance. It was all bad acting wise, I give props to Matthias and Ruby, they tried given what they were given to work with. I wanted to give it a better review but as I type this I realize I am just going to beat it up.
There was a scene where Ruby O. Fee grabs a hammer drill, determined to bust through the mysterious black brick wall that has suddenly blocked them in. That scene is the epitome of the fakeness involved. It was painfully obvious that the hammer drill attempt was horribly fake. When they use sledge hammers to bust through the walls between the apartments, the red brick was really fake looking, really bad. And on and on and on.....
I had high expectations of enjoying Matthias and Ruby again but this was not enjoyable, it was painful. And I think this has more to do with direction than anything else. It came off as a B Sci-fi movie, you know the old one with fake props and sets due to a lack of funds. The story was a good premise and showed promise but I think the execution left it all flat.....like a BRICK. Couldn't resist.
I honestly can't recommend this one, as much as I like Matthias and Ruby, I gotta say you should avoid this one.

I couldn't resist, tons of puns, tons of fun. Lots of silly jokes and lots of action. The scene where Air Force One is decimated is pretty intense, had to watch it twice.
It is hilarious comedy, non-stop action and political intrigue as they try to outwit the bad guys and stop them from tearing down the world order. Priyanka Chopra Jonas does an awesome job as Agent Bisset coming to their rescue and helping them thwart the evil plans.
The witty banter between John Cena and Idris Alba is infectious, it is simply good clean fun. The Tomato fight scene at the beginning was a sight to see, as was the gun battle during it. The Air Force One scene was pretty intense and worth a watch just to see. Well done CGI.
Just a fun ride, I liked it!

And the price for waiting for an eternity for the sequel is that it is not as good as the first.
I liked it but I am a big fan of the first so I think in really wanting it to be good and carry on the story I might have been more than forgiving but I do have some observations and questions:
1) It felt different, it was a little off is the best way I can put it. It was funny in the beginning and the action was great, but the flavor was off if I can put it that way.
2) Charlize, Nikki and the rest of the group were as good as the first, but it felt a little disjointed as it went on.
3) There was a completely different Director for this one than the first and I think it shows. I don't know if that has to do with Victoria Mahoney's Directorial job on this or if it was just a different style than Gina Prince-Bythewood, who directed the first one. On that level I think The Old Guard was better, felt more coherent story and scene wise.
4) Uma Thurman as Discord seemed a little one dimensional to me, you really didn't get a good sense of the character she was playing, again I don't know if maybe that has to do with direction. And the fight scene at the end with Andy and Discord was less than spectacular. I feel given Charlize, Uma and the characters it should have been way more dramatic. Was it the directing?
5) How come Discord was able to find Quynh and release her from her watery torture but Andy couldn't find her after 500 years of trying?
6) And once again we are left with a cliffhanger......completely sets itself up for another movie with nothing but questions in your head........The biggest one being will we see a third movie and when? How long will we have to wait this time? And will there be ANOTHER Director? Who?
