Alright, this is a good movie. It has breathtaking action, a great villain, a dark atmosphere and even some kind of a story. But after having seen it for the second time I think its still a bit over-rated. At least my oh-so-high expectations had me leaving the cinema with a hint of disappointment. Moral dilemma's sure are there, but they seem rather shallow after reading such ecstatic reviews. I hate to admit this, being a Batman fan since 'Batman Returns' came out. I think the whole hype around this actually spoiled my viewing pleasure. My advice is; if you're planning to go see it, don't expect too much. You'll like it better. Although the whole movie certainly isn't flawless, Heath Ledgers Joker steals the show, and is, along with the spectacular driving scenes, one of the main attractions to the film. I hope Chris Nolan is willing to make another one. It'll give me the chance to ignore all ads and reviews and love it just as it is... I really want to!
I really liked this movie. Usually, I'm not so fond of movies situated in the past, but this one really grabbed me. Maybe that is because I didn't read the book before (I want to read it now! You say it's even better? I want some proof!) Well lets see; GREAT acting, GREAT actors, GREAT story... To me, Geoffrey Rush now seems to be one of the greatest bad guys in film ever. Great acting, again. But this story is really about bad versus good. Its moving to see the best people get the worst, and eventually...(can't tell really, that would be a 'spoiler' right?!) But you gotta watch carefully sometimes, Mr. Bad Guy reveals his true motivation of his hunt in something like a split second ... Try it, even if you don't think it'll be much... I bet you'll discover this to be the little gem you wouldn't have it expected to be.
Vanilla Sky really blew my head off when I first saw it. If you've seen the cover/poster you'll know what I mean when I tell you I started looking with the idea this was a sort of romantic comedy or something. In the beginning, this seems to be pretty accurate: romantic, oh yeah! You can feel the tension between the Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz... great. The viewer is expected to fall in love with her, and you really do (If I was a woman I'd fancy Tom, I guess)...well, something like that, you know. What happens after the carcrash, when David Aames life takes a turn he looses control over, is unbelievable after the quite romantic start! But its definately GREAT! This way you can really feel the characters... its not just some folks in a strange situation, they come alive...more. Great acting, great story, great REMAKE! It's a remake of 'Abre Les Ojos' ('open your eyes', you'll get along this phrase quite a lot of times watching the movie, so be prepared, for what that might mean...I don't know). Abre Los Ojos, I really want to see it, but they don't have 'm in my local video-rent-thing (I don't know how ya english speeking people call it, pretty clear i think), so too bad, can't compare stuff. But this was awesome, second time watching was even better; you know the deal but it's still an intriguing story. So go see it and if you've seen it: see it again. 9/10
