I was anticipating this movie for a while and had high hopes, but for a movie based on Stephen King's writing, this was surprisingly exceptionally dull and boring, and is probably the worst King book to film adaptation that exists. There is literally no point to the movie, you learn nothing about who/what/why, and from start to end it's just boring dialogue mixed in with attempted shock-value kill scenes for no reason anyone can discern. This movie already exists. It's called Final Destination, and even THAT movie had an actual propulsive plot. This was tedious to watch and almost DNF'd it twice, but thought there might be something redeeming about it in the second half. There wasn't.
I recently finished reading Ready Player One, and having multiple friends tell me this was a good movie had me so hyped for it. I didn't check reviews before going into the movie, and realized pretty quickly, roughly 5 minutes in, that this was nothing like the book.
There are a few movies that have done their books justice, but this isn't one of them. If you've never read the book, this movie will probably keep you engaged. It does feel bland and flat though. There's no real connections or depth of characters here.
If you read and love this book, you will absolutely despise this movie. The only scene I enjoyed was The Shining. Other than that there were far too many deviations, reordering of events, completely invented plot points. The orchestral soundtrack? This should have been a Guardians of the Galaxy-level type soundtrack. HUGE miss.
This was just, ugh, for me.

The entire movie is just humans being humans, and no, I don't mean that in a nice way. There are literally only 3.5 redeeming characters, the rest highlight just how far humanity is from the human race. If the point of this movie was to make me even angrier at us as a species, then congratulations, mission accomplished.
Five minutes in and we're watching poaching, the theft of baby animals for the circus. The best scene was probably the plane crash to put the kibosh on that.
Guns, guns, more guns, tranq darts, animal exploitation, and the only way to escape it is to live on your own private island.
