"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" was a fresh film full of nostalgia and a great cast headed up with the great @michaelkeatondouglas reprising his role as "the ghost with the most". The genius way to include a certain character whose actor was marred in a very serious scandal) was pure genius on @timburton 's part. The story was well paced and very enjoyable. The scenes in the afterlife were filled with all the aesthetics one would expect from the mind of Tim Burton. The returning cast seemed to have no problem falling right back into the world of Beetlejuice. If I have one negative thing to say about the movie is that I wish @monicabellucciofficiel would have received more screen time. Other than that one small issue, which takes away absolutely nothing from the film as presented, the movie was exceptionally made. Thank you to Tim Burton, Michael Keaton and the rest of the cast for such an enjoyable film.
I must start out saying that I was not a fan of the original "Twister" movie. That film seemed like it never really had a high threat level to make you worry while watching. Hell, even in the final scene, the two main characters did not even get hurt (not even a bruise or scratch) while sitting in the middle of a tornado with debris flying all around them. The best part of the original movie was Helen Hunt's and Bill Paxton's characters. They oozed a chemistry that made it feel like they've known and cared about each other for a long time.
This new "Twisters" film has a lot more fun and excitement being brought to the table. Everything about it is amped up to maximum levels. The threats of tornadoes are shown early on and continues throughout the film (sorry, no gimmicky cow passing the screen).
Daisy Edgar-Jones leads the cast as Kate, a young woman who has been fascinated by weather storm systems ever since she was a young child. The trauma she endures from a tornado hunt gone wrong helps builds her character as Javi (played by Anthony Ramos) enlists her help because of their past relationship. He's seen her in action and admires her, if not also having a bit of a crush on her.
Javi is a corporate man chasing storms now believing he's helping developers learn how to build better in case tornadoes strike. His storm chasing team, Storm Par, is the high-tech, financially backed team that has the new technology that would make average storm chasers envious. His team is all business all the time built with university PHDs leading the charge.
Tyler (played magnificently by Glen Powell) and his group the Storm Wranglers are the fun and exciting storm chasing group doing this as more of a hobby and having a blast while doing it. Unlike Javi's group, Tyler's team isn't working with high-tech. Their truck is a hodgepodge of miscellaneous switches, flare launching tubes and drills attached to the truck to secure themselves to the ground so they can actually be in the storm launching fireworks from inside the tornadoes.
The differences between the 2 groups don't end there, as motives revealed cause Kate to question what is best for her. All the leads want what is best for the communities but muddled internal politics can get in the way.
The threats of tornadoes in this film make the original film look like a Sesame Street episode. Everything is amped up in this movie. You see the before, during and aftermaths of the tornadoes in a way the first didn't. You feel the fear of the characters on screen. You feel the destruction and devastation through your bones.
The movie does have some "realistic faults", but as in most movies of this nature, you have to be willing to accept. This is the reason I didn't score the movie higher. With all that the movie did right, there is so many exaggerated parts that really make it hard to believe at points throughout the movie.
Overall experience is well worth it. I did see it in IMAX to get the full effect and I was not disappointed. The sound and visuals of this movie were outstanding. Movies like this are absolutely meant to be seen on MAX screens and I love it when it's done right.
Go see this on the big screen (preferably on IMAX) because this is an example of what movies are meant to be.
Thank you for taking time to read my review and see you next weekend!
