Yes, this is another monochrome monstrosity from the golden age of Z-grade drive-in sci-fi filler. And no, I usually don't spend time reviewing such. As a quick scroll will show, multitudes have written hilariously scathing and accurate reviews of this thing; and, let's face it, nobody checks out a title like "The Beast of Yucca Flats" expecting "Richard III," or even "Superman III."
However, this one has several things worthy of comment. First, as others have noted, the best performance is by a wild jackrabbit that wanders into Tor Johnson's final shot (sadly, of his career, not just this botch of a flick). Second, Coleman Francis, as writer/editor/producer/actor/auteur, makes Ed Wood Jr. Seem like Orson Welles. Third, Francis's stock company (most of whom are Francis's relatives) make the inestimable Mr. Johnson's acting abilities also look like Orson Wells' or at least Orson Bean's. Fourth, this beast was unleashed in May 1961. You may note certain similarities to "The Hulk" was released a full year later.... Oh, yes, "The flag on the moon" would've been a great title for an Emerson Lake and Palmer album.

... at the spectacle of one of Hollywood's highest paid stars making a movie about the only American buried in the Kremlin wall.... at the irony of literally millions of evil capitalist dollars being sucked from the coffers of an American studio to fund this love poem to Communism.... and at the useful idiots who swooned over this long, dull, golden turkey and nominated it for an Oscar. Fortunately, the American public was smarter; this crap lost tens of millions, or basically, a dollar for every victim of Soviet genocide.
