Huge movie buff. Favorite genre is horror. Lucio Fulci Rules! My top 50 (for now) are as follows:

1. 'Psycho (Collector's Edition)' My personal favorite film of all time. No more memorable a character as Norman Bates. A work of art.
2. 'The Nightmare Before Christmas (Special Edition)' One of the most beautiful looking films. It's a world unlike anything you've ever seen. And as hard as I try I can't seem to describe like most improbable dream.
3. 'Return to Oz' My personal favorite live action fantasy. The Land of Oz is such a wonderful place and this film captures the essence of that which was portrayed in the books. Best bit: "Youuuu behaaaave!"
4. 'A Clockwork Orange' What can I say? It may be disturbing and hardcore, but I get all giddy at the same time when watching this film. Can you say Masterpiece?
5. 'Jurassic Park (Widescreen Collector's Edition)' Spielberg has alot of great films to his credit (in my opinion ALL of them are great) but when Spielberg does Dinos, you're in for the biggest ride of your life. And it has Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill to boot.
6. 'The Untouchables (Special Collector's Edition)' When it comes to mobster movies I always choose to watch this one first. It's fantastic filmmaking.
7. 'Jaws (Widescreen 30th Anniversary Edition)' Another Spielberg animal-runs-amok masterpiece. But it's the human drama and character interaction that makes this so memorable. Of course that shark is pretty memorable too.
8. 'The Silence of the Lambs (Widescreen Special Edition)' Rarely do films get to you in a way this one does. Believe me when I say that you won't feel right for a good day after seeing this. One of the greatest film scores ever written too.
9. 'Pee-wee's Big Adventure' Perhaps the film that turned me into a movie buff. It's one of the earliest films I can remember seeing. Fantastic.
10. 'Fantasia (60th Anniversary Special Edition)' Unlike most kids I loved this movie when I was young and still do. One of Disney's best.
11. 'Once Upon a Time in the West' One of the most visually stunning films ever created. Also one of the most beautiful film scores written.
12. 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Vista Series)' Zemeckis' masterpiece that throws in a ton of classic cartoon characters in one beautiful film. It's really an unbelievably amazing film.
13. 'Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back' I consider the entire Star Wars saga to be nothing short of masterful and that includes the prequels as well. I love'em. But I suppose I have to choose my favorite so here it is.
14. 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Two-Disc Special Edition)' One of the funniest movies you could ever see. Also one of the most heartbreaking.
15. 'Halloween (Divimax 25th Anniversary Edition)' John Carpenter is the true god of horror. This is his ultimate gift to horror fans.
16. 'Gremlins 2 - The New Batch' Extremely underrated. It's a joke every second in this film. And it's loaded with a ton of movie references. It's just so darn fun!
17. 'Batman Returns (Two-Disc Special Edition)' It's the best comic book film of all time. What gothic mayhem!
18. 'The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition)' Same as Star Wars I love all of the Rings films, but this is my fave.
19. 'Eraserhead' Beautiful and haunting. Also the most depressing film of all time. Don't watch with a noose or pistol near by. You might not make it to the end.
20. 'The Night of the Hunter' A shame this was the director's only film. I can only imagine what more could have come from this guys brilliant mind.
21. 'Aliens (Collector's Edition)' I love films 1 through 3. And I enjoyed AvP quite a bit, but this one is my favorite. James Cameron's masterpiece.
22. 'Christine' Second best and most dramatic Carpenter film. Keith Gordon's acting is astounding. Fave bit is the 'Toast to the death of the sh*tters of the World' scene.
23. 'Schindler's List (Widescreen Edition)' Steven Spielberg's magnum opus. Every film buff MUST see this.
24. 'American Psycho (Uncut Killer Collector's Edition)' Not unlike 'Clockwork' this is both highly revolting and hilarious at the same time. You have to have quite a dark sense of humor to thoroughly enjoy this one.
25. 'Donnie Darko' Haunting, beautiful, mysterious, thought provoking. Favorite scene takes place in a theater while 'Evil Dead' is palying.
26. 'Fargo (Special Edition)' My favorite Coen Brothers movie. Again dark humor at it's best.
27. 'Ghostbusters' I grew up on the this movie and it's still just as wonderful everytime I watch it. Hilarious.
28. 'The Omen' A truly disturbing film. Jerry Goldsmith's score will send shivers up your back.
29. 'The Muppets Take Manhattan' I'm a Jim Henson nut. All the Muppet films are great, but there's just something about this one. Love the entire wedding sequence.
30. 'Sleepy Hollow' Only Tim Burton could make such a gothic menacing version of the tale like this one. It's outstanding.
31. 'Goodfellas (Two-Disc Special Edition)' My favorite Scorsese film. Joe Pesci's character must be seen to be believed.
32. 'Escape from New York (Special Edition)' Another great Carpenter flick. It's alot of fun and has a great score to back it up. Love Romero.
33. 'Mary Poppins (40th Anniversary Edition)' One of Disney's best. Actually a tie with Fantasia. One of the most charming movies you'll ever see.
34. 'Willard'
35. 'Labyrinth'
36. 'Dark City (New Line Platinum Series)'
37. 'Suspiria (3 Disc Limited Edition)'
38. 'The Secret of NIMH'
39. '2001 - A Space Odyssey'
40. 'The Shining'
41. 'The Exorcist (The Version You've Never Seen)'
42. 'Hellbound: Hellraiser 2'
43. 'Dolores Claiborne'
44. 'Army of Darkness' I admire all three films as a whole, but again I most choose a favorite. Even though it has a bigger budget it still has a low budget flavor which I love.
45.'A Christmas Story (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition)' An American classic. Nostalgic and funny and brilliant all at the same time. Don't shoot your eye out.
46.'Popeye' Nay-sayers can go eat spinach. This film does the Max Fleischer cartoons justice. Technically it's a marvel. It's just too bad many didn't see that.
47.'Child's Play' Children in peril always got to me. I saw this as a youngster and it made quite the impact. And Brad Dourif is a god.
48.'Scrooged' Second best Christmas movie ever.
49.'Twister' Muchmore that a popcorn movie. The depiction of very bad weather is astounding and jaw dropping.
50. 'Wes Craven's New Nightmare' My personal favorite Craven film. One of the most clever horror films I have ever seen. Technically it's more of a Hitchcockian thriller.

  • Surprisingly good remake! **** out of 5

The Omen has always been one of my favorite horror films so of course I'm going to be somewhat hesitant on seeing a remake of such.

Secretly though for years I had always fantasized about how I would remake the film and add little touches here and there. Nothing that would improve upon the original but just things I felt would go well with a retelling.

Thankfully this film is pretty much the route I would have gone with. Many people have complained about how it is so much like the original. Personally, I felt even though the story structure and most of the death scenes were alike, it wasn't shot by shot the same film (like the Psycho remake). It went in it's own direction.

I'm glad David Seltzer, writer of the original, came back to spruce up things.

The kid who plays Damien is absolutely fantastic. Cold and emotionless he had an aura about him that certainly felt evil. Liev Schreiber is great as always. By far one of the greatest and most underrated actors today in movies. And I loved the appearances by Pete Postlethwaite, Michael Gambon, and Mia Farrow.

I was bowled over with excitement that Marco Beltrami was on board to score the film. To me he has been the Jerry Goldmsith of the 21st Century and it was only appropriate that he score the remake of a film Goldsmith had scored years ago. He does a great job at doing his own thing and only hints at the themes that were used in the original. It's not a landmark score and of course doesn't surpass the classic original, but it's still a non-conventional, appropriate and effective score.

There are nuances and subliminalities here and there which I appreciated. A key moment I loved was when Stiles is in the bathtub and sees her 'son' watching her. What happens during this scene will really disturb you. The scenes that were best recreated in my opinion were the 'falling over the balcony' scene where Stiles is pushed over by Damien and the cemetery scene where the dogs attack. There was an unexpected moment of humor before the infamous 'nanny hanging' scene where not just everyone is staring but also two Punch and Judy puppets.

It's directed well, atmospheric, and even emotional. It may not be a classic, but no one should have ever expected that. This is one of the remakes that succeeds.

  • Nothing special and surprisingly boring. 1 1/2 out of 5 stars

The problem with this video cheapie isn't necessarily the concept. Sure the concept is cheesy and all but the film itself should abide by the rules of a good cheesy movie. Instead half of this film focuses on a teenage love triangle in bakery one scary night. It's like watching a soap opera called 'General Bakery'. The biggest plot hole here is that everyone stays inside the friggin bakery and lets a Gingerbread Man chase them around! No one ever thinks to get out or go get help when someone is hurt. Also there is no explanation whatsoever as to who the guy with the black cape was that brought the gingerbread dough to the bakery (I'm supposing it was Darth Vader). Of course it takes a little blood mixed with this dough to make an evil gingerbread man, so it just so happens someone cuts their finger while getting out the dough and viola! Vader knew it would happen.

The first couple of scenes with the Gingerdead Man made me laugh. I think it's funny to see Busey in gingerbread man form. It's just weird. But there isn't enough of him and the good stuff that makes a good cheesy straight to video flick.

The problem with this film is that it isn't fun enough. They tried to be a little too serious at times with the love story and the attempt at humor, especially the one guy acting like a superhero-ninja wannabe, can be particularly painful to watch.

I love Charles Band, his movies in the late 80's and early 90's have and still entertain me greatly, but this stuff coming out lately just ain't what it used to be.
