First, the good news. There are only four episodes for this unnecessary extension, more than enough.
The bad news, it is a mess.
Hape Kerkeling is usually delivering enjoyable comedy but this TV series is definitely on the lower end of the scale.
The story is trying to connect to the movie but doesn't reach the level. It is a patchwork of cheaply made slapsticks and a hair tearing story line which has been written quite amateurish.
The acting quality is accordingly, very basic level. If looking for laughs, there isn't much. The jokes are anticipated and mostly flat.

That RTLplus took the story is not a surprise, it fits to the level of this channel. The series is only available for streaming at this moment. Whether it will be aired in free TV remains to be seen.

Setting the scene at Venice looked like a good idea but it turned out that beside dark night scenes, there isn't much to see. Poirot's case was far from any excitement, probably causing more yawning. The ghost effects aren't giving any chills and are mostly immediately debunked, e.g. Type writer controlled remotely. The mostly at night shot movie misses out on the detailed exploration of each character as it is usually done in Agatha Christie's original writings.
This is definitely not one from my top list of Poirot movies. If this is what Poirot's retirement is about, then the next movie should be "Curtain - Poirot's last case" and end this version of Poirot movies.

It is an attempt to create an independent story with criminalistic and humorous elements. Definitely Desperate Housewives and the Austrian series Vorstadtweiber served as templates here. However, the level of the templates is not reached. The story is too thin and the humor only appears sporadically. The cast also leaves a lot to be desired. What remains is a shallow story, which unfortunately remains at a low level. Once again, this is an example of how low quality series are produced with German TV fees that are not worth their money. Have viewers actually been asked if there should be a second season?
