Kraven the Hunter is an absolute disaster-a dull, self-serious slog with no redeeming qualities. The pacing is glacial, the action is forgettable, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's performance is shockingly lifeless. The film tries to be gritty but ends up feeling like a cheap knockoff of better R-rated antihero flicks. The script is a joke, packed with cringe-worthy dialogue and laughable attempts at depth. Even the villainous Kraven himself is painfully uninteresting, wasting a classic Spider-Man foe on a story nobody asked for. Sony's Spider-Verse without Spider-Man continues to be a trainwreck. Avoid at all costs.
Finally, a Superman movie that remembers what makes the Man of Steel great-heroism, hope, and heart. No forced political agendas, no dreary cynicism, just a damn good superhero flick. James Gunn knocks it out of the park, delivering a Superman that feels fresh. The action is spectacular, the pacing is tight, and the lead actor embodies Superman with the perfect mix of strength and sincerity. And Lex Luthor Kills it. Finally-a cold, calculating, and actually hateful Lex who feels like a real threat. The rest of the cast were great.
The humor lands without undercutting the drama. Is it flawless? Maybe not. But who cares? It's not preaching at you-it's just a good time.
Gunn nails the tone, but we needed more of Guy Gardner and hawk girl - their chemistry was gold, (screaming aside). Here's hoping the sequel or a spinoff, gives them the spotlight they deserve. I'm genuinely excited to see where Gunn takes the DCU next.
