I was subjected to this terrible excuse for a made for TV movie. I only watched it because I don't have cable and my only other choices were Golf, College Basketball, or local news. The plot is very generic and has no substance that I could see, not to mention it had a major flaw in my eyes. The main character, Dr. Sorensen, is a washed up astronomer who believes that an asteroid named "Nemesis" will strike Earth, causing all life to cease. He bases his belief on his discovery of cave paintings by an Aboriginee (I'm sure I spelled that one wrong). The paintings show an apparent timeline, showing significant events throughout history, such as the building of the Great Wall of China. All of the events are shown in perfect chronological order, and the very last picture on the timeline is Earth being destroyed. Now to me, if the painting showed things that had indeed happened, why would the great Doctor believe that he could somehow change what was going to happen? All that aside, the movie moved along with extreme formulaic precision. There was nothing in the movie that surprised me at all. The actors were not very good, and on a few occasions I just felt that they didn't even take the movie seriously to put forth enough effort to try to convince me that the characters were worth caring about. The whole movie was cliche ridden and a downright waste of time and money. I'd recommend Armageddon over this piece of crap any day. At least Armageddon has some good acting (compared to this), not to mention the eye candy that is Liv Tyler. Now that I think about it, Golf isn't that bad.......

People may say this film does not seem like a James Bond movie or that the plot is weak, but the truth is, this plot is absolutely terrific. Having Bond face his near equal is a terrific plot, and I thoroughly enjoy it every time I watch it. Many people say that this was a disappointing movie, and the only disappointing aspect I find is the score by Eric Serra. He massacred the sanctity of our beloved Bond Theme. I prefer David Arnold's score from Tomorrow Never Dies 10 times more than Goldeneye. I think that is the only major flaw in Goldeneye. The stunts are terrifically thought out and performed, though many call the plane stunt in the pre-credits sequence unreal or impossible, yet they forget this is James Bond. James Bond is a fantasy, and not all of the things are real. James Bond movies take the world we live in and twist it a bit to make a great movie. Take for instance Moonraker. In Moonraker, they take advantage of the new space shuttles in the movie. There are factual inconsistencies such as the fact that NASA could not launch a space shuttle just like that. It takes major preparation to launch just one space shuttle, which includes combing the road where the space shuttle is taken down to the launching pad, test firings and numerous hours of training. Even with this, they require a launch window, which I doubt would just happen to be there. My point is, many things in Bond flicks are not total reality, but based on it, and that is why we love the films. I give this movie a 10.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The martial arts expertise of Jackie Chan is superb. He is truly a master, and it is displayed well in this movie. Chris Tucker does a terrific job of playing the off the wall LAPD officer who is assigned to keep Chan's character out of the way of an investigation, but ends up helping him solve it in the end. Chris Tucker is an extremely well disciplined actor, and seems to go very smoothly with the styles of Jackie Chan. Not only is the action part of the movie good, the now common jokes in martial arts movies are all there, including many racial/cultural difference jokes (not necessarily making fun of races, but the cultural differences. Ie; a scene where Tucker and Chan's characters go into a bar to get some information, and Tucker's character says to another person "Wusup my nigga?". Chan's character not realizing what this would mean from a non black person to a black person says that to a person in the bar, and a whole chain of events ensue, which might I add was a well done bit.) and a whole array of other funny parts, a lot having to do with the communication of the languages. I gave this movie a 9 rating, as it is a good movie, with few flaws, yet they are there. The major flaw is that it is an action movie. Action movies generally cannot be scored as 10's as they do not contain the material that make a truly incredible movie. I do recommend you see this and have a good laugh.
