Honestly, I never saw the end of this film, but once a woman gets sassy with Clint and he rapes her to 'learn her' respect I figured out that this movie was made by some disturbing people. No one will do anything about that because they need his help. Without having seen the end, I think I know how it will end. The review above me is perfect, and I recommend listening to it, over even my own.
This is the opposite of a kid's movie. Many R rated violent movies are fine for kids, but the story, the tragedy, the horror, and just the characters are too much for children. This is not a movie to watch if you are having a party. This is a fine, fine work by John Woo. The four main characters are excellent, and one is a killing machine. In the end you get more from this than even The Killer (which I feel is a better movie). While The Killer may tug at your heart, this will screw with your mind. This movie must be seen much more than the Matrix when it comes to being unable to explain what's going on. John Woo's opening seems very in character for him, but it might not be perfect for this film. Still, it serves its purpose and the end is truly incredible.
This remake of Chinese Connection succeeds in every way that the original did, but somehow manages to make it better. Where there was a solid story there is now a scintillating plot, with much more depth. The fight scenes with Bruce Lee were incredible and Jet Li is only able to be Bruce's equal by having more fight scenes that are more logical. The villainy is less obvious, and the heros less pure. The subtitles are excellent, so turn off the dubbing and use the subtitles for the DVD, although the head enemy sounds like Emperor Palpatine. My name at imdb comes from the protagonist from this movie and Chinese Connection. Also, Chen was voted greatest hero of the Eastern Film Society.
