Bimal Roy's movies were invariable a tragedy. In this movie he tried to make a happy ending story. Music being the hallmark of his movie, takes the centerstage here too. The song 'suhana safar...' was put to get that romantic touch and happiness into the movie. But invariable that tinge of sadness is apparent.

Madhubala at her best and what to say of Dilip Kumar, better watch it. And for those non-Indian viewers, look for the song 'bichuva..' .

The user rating says it all. This is supposed to be the biggest hit of Indian film history! Sorry I saw it only after 2 years and it was still running full, and I din't like it. Reason : its not the original. The story was borrowed form a Telugu classic 'Abhinandana'. It was a tragedy and hence not so salable. The director cleverly moulded the story with a happy ending.

It looks like a typical marwari marriage party with the all the ingredients: Big family, happy family, no bad guys. The story is thin line and moves form one song to another, with some funny tricks added, like the old trial and test methods. This is no food for the head movie.

It is solely for family entertainment, a picnic and a money spinning machine.

Not recommended for serious viewing.

This looks like another run of the mill kannada movie. Except that, this one was the first original story of its kind. Geetha is the name of the main lead, who happens to fall in love with a singer (Shankar Nag). After initial hiccups the two finally look for each other only to know that Geetha has a blood cancer. This happens to be the second time tragedy for the hero.

The film is immortal in the kannada film history for its music by Illairaja the maestro. Many of the songs like "Jotheyelli" are the heart throbing songs of young couples.
