The number 13 is meant to mean bad luck but it real has no relevance here as the director ,cast and crew have deliberately put together a very poor movie. The villians are superficial,plastic(their not one bit scary at all): the charactor portrayed in this movie are very weak, shallow and not enough emphasis is built into having a strong hero and/or villan, one which the audience can love or hate and the story is just pitiful and weak. I felt like walking out half way through the picture but I stayed because of how much I enjoyed Antonnio in Mask of Zoro.

This is one of my favourite mini-series. It is a shame that "Cowra Breakout","The Dirtwater Dynasty" and "Against the Wind' are not put back on Television and/or DVD. All of these are very well acted, very Australian and keeps myself as a viewer,very absorbed. From memory the Cowra Breakout is set during the 2nd world war, in which our two main protaganists meet, during a very bitter battle which I think results in the capture of the japanese actor and the returning of the aussie to a N.S.W town called Cowra. The Japanese are kept as prisoners in POW there camp and our two former enemies become friends. To be captured by the enemy is to be absolutely disgraced and the only honorable thing for a Japanese POW to do is to committ suicide, which some of them try. All in all a very good mini-series with good flow and one which I believe, would be enjoyed by the rest of the world

The performances by Kevin Spacey and Jullian Moore were very good but good acting alone can not save a very dreary, dull, dis-jointed movie.The story moved very slowly and didn't have the "flow" of movies like "Chocolat" and "American Beauty. I see that the "unemployed critic" cans "Chocolat" but I would suggest that this person should get a job because for me , there is just no comparison between these two classics and this movie. The main theme of the movie seemed to be "letting go of the past" so I would suggest that this director learns the lesson from this movie and moves on to something better. This movie would be only just acceptable as a made for Television production.
