Dynamite Kiss dropped two episodes this week and-OMG-super kilig! I loved that they mentioned Notting Hill. Yes, it's a little cliché and OA, but honestly? I can already feel this series is going to be GOOD. Please don't disappoint me!
When you've watched as many K-dramas as I have-especially rom-coms-you develop this special superpower where you can tell within the first 2-5 episodes if a show is worth it or a total waste of time. And with everyone's attention span shrinking, K-drama fans like me are getting extra picky. We need to feel something-kilig, chemistry, magic-in the first 1-2 episodes. That's the deciding moment.
And Dynamite Kiss delivered.
I'm not even a huge fan of Ahn Eun-jin or Jang Ki-yong, but that kiss. Oh my Lord. I can literally smell the chemistry from here.
I think this one's going to be really, really good.
Please don't fail me! I cannot wait for next week's episodes!

I'm a complete k-drama fanatic and lately have been very disappointed with dramas released by Netflix in particular. However the script writing the dynamics the acting the romance (swoonworthy and hot) the social interactions - I love everything about this Dynamite Kiss - I've been waiting for a drama to come out like this for ages thank you finally it's here - K drama writers for this program well done and please make many more xxx.
The first two episodes, upon which my comments are based, introduced enough potential plot complications -- both in the leads' relationship and in the personal and professional circumstances surrounding them -- to engage me for more. We've even had the meet-cute, which dovetailed into the mandatory slow-motion falling scene. Glad that's behind us. [Note: I am not putting this up as a spoiler just because I mentioned the meet cute and the slow-motion falling scene The MC and the SMFS are not spoilers so much as sine qua non.]
7.9 average rating? GTFO. More than half of these reviews are botted and only cover the first two episodes, which were undoubtedly the best of the series. The show starts off strong but gradually declines week by week. The initial setup is good with Jeju Island and the workplace situation that the FL quickly finds herself in is great. The other mothers she works with round out the group nicely. The actual rom-com is enjoyable up to a point, but then the real plot begins...
Villain 1 is introduced. She is one-dimensional, dull, and lacking any depth. She exists solely to remove the main lead from the company so she can take over. Okay I could deal with that, but the writers had the brilliant idea to add another guy just to help her, but he's equally as one-dimensional and dull. Now you have two idiots taking up time. Yuck.
Then we have the second male lead. My goodness, what were the writers thinking with this character? Initially portrayed almost like a saint at first as a single father is gradually, week by week, written so poorly that the audience ends up disliking him. But why? He was literally handed the woman of a lifetime, yet the writers do him dirty to create unnecessary drama between ML and FL. Another yuck.
By the end of the show, the writers had run out of original ideas and decided to throw every K-drama trope into the story just for good measure. So disappointing.

The casting was good, the writing not so good. This had all the cliches of the K rom-com - chaebol, dysfunctional family with an illegitimate kid; poor female drowning in debt & chased by loan sharks; love triangle with a long-time friend; FL constantly stumbling (literally & figuratively) & having to be saved; the scheming to overturn the company; the push/pull with the leads; so many coincidences; the loss of memory. I could go on. From the 10th episode onwards it was all downhill with the script. The ending left a lot of unanswered questions as it seemed rushed. What happened to her sister the entire time?
The FL & the ML had the chemistry. Ahn Eun-jin, the FL, is coming into more leading roles as in My Dearest. Here she does what she can with a script that projects her in a pathetic light for most of the time. Jang Ki-yong, the ML, is a bit hard to watch as he looks very plastic in appearance - so shiny & smooth. The alpha male chaebol suited him, but then 1 kiss & he became a pathetic puppy.
The supporting staff were strong. Nam Gi-ae seems to be the perpetual mother figure now (King the Land, Thirty-Nine). She has to stop marrying these rich guys! Kim Mu-jun, as part of the love triangle, just didn't have the nerve to tell her his feelings, which you think would be obvious to her after all those years. It was painful. The mothers' team were all solid in their parts.
The 'baddies' were all believable in their quest for power.
The final episode was sloppy, lazy writing that made me cringe. When everything is going smoothly the K drama has to throw the usual curb ball. But then it all works out in the end!!
