Whispers Among Wolves

This is an enjoyable story with insights on romance; co-dependency; and the work ethic and the sacrifices we make to it. As a lifelong resident of Toronto, a town largely characterized by its frenetic pace, I'm still not sure whether to appreciate or despair that the rat race is no less pronounced in Oz than my hometown. This is a polished movie in that strikes a perfect tone of being just a bit outrageous, exaggerated, yet entirely realistic and believable.

For the condesed story . For the impecable performances. For atmosphere. And for the translation on images of the tension, sarcasmus, vulnerability and the last word of CEO. A film more than moving because it is the inspired picture about appearences and reality, refuges, the other as object, the need to escape from yourself and the option defining yourself in fundamental manner. A profound usefull film. For suggest the right questions about yourself.

This is my first Omeleto short I've watched. Wow. This 15 minute film packs more drama into it than a lot of feature-length films. It unfolds like a compact short story. So much packed into so little time. Great character development, great acting, great, snappy dialogue without being all Aaron-Sorkin-y. I suspect I will be binging on Omelleto shorts for the next week.

This short film, the title of which seems to reference Wolf of Wall Street, sees a female CEO having dinner with her personal assistant. The conversation is business focused while she drinks heavily as normal, however a personal change in the life of the male assistant sees other topics come to the surface.

In terms of content, this film is not as engaging as I would have liked; it doesn't really ever hit a high spot which sticks in the mind, and instead it has nice elements without excelling. The dialogue has a reasonably good flow to it, but doesn't snap, or have the impact that the writer would have been going for – close perhaps, but not quite there. What helps this aspect a lot though is that the delivery is pretty good. The film focuses on the two characters, and the two actors pay that focus back by both being pretty solid in their various roles. What makes the film stand out is that it drifts through memory sequences with the usual visual segues, but in this case they are all done in the moment (or "in camera" if you want to sound like toy know what you're talking about, which I don't).

These are technically well handled and, along with the performances and generally snappy delivery, they help the film rise above its content and be lighter and more engaging than it could have been. Not brilliant, but wort ha look.
