Shinsei Galverse

Before watching the anime I didn't really know what expectations to have, as this is artist Ayaka Ohira's first big project as a director and there was very few reference material of the Shinsei Galverse artwork in motion, aside from the Tove Lo - I Like U music video, and the trailer itself. However, the recent revealing of the high-profile voice actor cast and the behind the scenes footage on their YouTube channel really got me excited to watch this.

Watching Shinsei Galverse, the art didn't disappoint: the characters look crisp and vibrant, with some beautiful background shots in there as well. Obviously the anime was made to please 90's anime fans, but it does so while looking modern at the same time. The action scenes were great too, with the laser guns, swords and gadgets all looking and sounding crisp and impactful. Overall I really like the positive yet serious tone of the Galverse universe, which makes it easy to watch but at the same time handles interesting, meaningful topics.

Because the episode was quite short we didn't get to see a whole lot of individual character progression, but D. D stood out to me as the most interesting one. She looks badass, and Ai Fairouz did a great job voicing her. I would love to see more of her story.

Without spoiling too much, the final scene adds an interesting extra layer that really left me wanting more!

Shinsei Galverse was a retro nostalgic masterpiece! And it's free to watch on YouTube which is wild. It's short, but for an OVA, it did an amazing job at introducing the world and characters in a pretty short time frame and the end scene left me wanting to see more.

The voice acting cast is incredible and they brought their A-game. In particular, I love D. D.'s journey and how she evolves and changes over the course of the episode. I would love to see an English dub and of course more episodes too. Zero's character is fun - jumping between serious, funny, and pretty misty eyed at times. If you speak Japanese, there's a tonne of gyaru language and slang references which are cool. I also liked the classic yellow subtitles on YouTube.

The last minute is probably the most intriguing, hinting at the wider world of the Galverse galaxy and what other stories we might have to look forward to.

The art style is so distinctly 90s and I feel there's not much else out there which scratches the retro - nostalgic anime itch. I love the bold lines, vibrant colors, and the gyaru inspiration for the character designs and outfits. Even if you don't know about gyaru culture I think it's a hit... there's a fun mix here between shoujo and shonen styles. Fingers crossed for more episodes.

When I first watched Shinsei Galverse, I was blown away by the unique art style and the quality of this first episode! You can really tell here how much hard work and love went into this!

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and hearing their amazing voices for the first time. Some of the characters that stood out to me were D. D. and RanRan, but there are many shining stars in here. I think it would be cool if the episodes could extend closer to 30 minutes, which would help give the audience a bit more time with the individual characters.

Overall I thought it was excellent, especially knowing that this was created by a small but mighty team. I had a good time and I am really looking forward to seeing episodes!

"We're the Galverse." This is my favorite scene.

The screen is filled with cute, highly fashionable, and unique gals. While only a few characters have speaking lines, many other charming gals appear one after another, giving a sense of the expanding world. Just watching them is enough to make your heart race with excitement.

This work packs all the appeal of Galverse into a single episode. The pacing is smooth, and despite the short runtime, the story is dense and thoroughly enjoyable. With the setting that each Galverse has her own "mission," it makes you even more eager to see how future stories will unfold.

What's also worth mentioning is the incredibly luxurious voice cast. From the main characters Zero and D. D. to other roles, hugely popular voice actors bring even short lines to life and harmonize perfectly with the animation. You can really feel the high quality of the visuals and direction.

The music is wonderful too! With Taku Takahashi of m-flo as the music producer, the theme song is full of gal-mind energy and is a must-listen. Though it plays subtly within the show, it's a catchy and addictive tune you'll want to hear more of.

And above all, this story has only just begun.

In the future, Galverse has plans for a sequel, which we are very much looking forward to.

With such a richly unique cast of characters, 20 minutes simply isn't enough to convey their full charm.

That's why I strongly, strongly hope for a continuation.

I can't believe this was produced independently. The use of emerging tech blended with traditional animation methods by this team is unparalleled. You cannot fault them.
