A couple of janitors working late on Christmas Eve have a puppy dumped on them. They try to leave in on Anne Heche's doorstep, but one of them breaks his leg fleeing... and that's just the first disaster in this remarkably funny comedy from the Hallmark Channel's annual Christmas season of original movies.
Jay Russell directs his cast in wonderfully straight-faced performances as they struggle to get through this particular calamity, only to break an arm or be robbed at gunpoint in a snowstorm. Miss Heche's just-keeping-it-together-for-the-kids demeanor is very funny, and the mildly incredulous way Brian Tee as the doctor who keeps seeing the same bunch of shlemazels return to his emergency room yet again is fine. There aren't many laugh-out-loud moments, but no one tries for them. You will smile a lot as people manage to get through big and small problems and still be happy.

A perfectly delightful spin on the holidays. A divorced mother of two attempts to create a magical old-fashioned Christmas, but of course, the kiddos like most kids of this x generation want the latest gadgets and are angry because their oft absentee father is once again MIA. Through a series of parallel events, a recently laid off mall worker leaves a lost dog on the woman's doorstep. From there, mayhem and fun ensue as the said man slips on the ice and breaks his arm and the woman and her children drive him to the ER. From there and onward, many other individuals emerge on the scene and connect... well because of one extremely mischievous puppy. Each of them discovering that unexpected chaos can lead to some awesome memories and lasting bonds.
Wonderful because it emphasizes families extend far beyond bloodlines. Well worth watching James Welch Henderson, Arkansas 12/20/2020

This film is a wild, wild ride. It's all around family friendly fun, but is quite atipical for a Christmas movie. Go watch it blind, your kids will love it.

Absolutely the worst movie made in recent years, Christmas or not. The only good thing about this flop is the puppy. One must wonder what they were thinking to actually release this horrid excuse of a movie. Once the process started, the script finished, actors selected
it's as if the process was a train that couldn't be stopped. Someone should have thrown the switch to put this on a side-rail for no one to see. What planet do these people come from? There are no redeeming elements. The plot is weak, the storyline is stealthy, and the acting non-existent. Situations strain credulity. If you manage to get through the first hour, you'll know it was a mistake to watch, and you'll hate yourself of being sucked in by the puppy. Best to record it so you can FF/Watch a little/FF/watch a little more/DELETE. You'll find out the last 15-minutes is as bad as the middle segments. I'm a sucker for even bad Christmas movies, but this is off the scale at a -10, if that were possible.

I am not a person that laughs easily and lately I have been going through some medical problems that have me more like Scrooge than Scrooge himself. I did not have any expectations when I sat down to watch the movie but while watching the movie, I actually laughed so hard, my eyes watered. I forgot about my aches and pains. I liked the movie so much, I have it saved to watch again, something that I never do. Was it a silly movie, probably, but it was just what I needed to see. I thought that the whole cast was pretty funny and once the movie started it never missed a beat and there was hardly a break in my laughing. I do not know if It will be as funny the second time around, but I am going to give it a try. I say Kudos to the cast and crew! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to those that did not like the movie, Bah! Humbug!

This movie was beyond stupid! what has happened to Hallmark. This one was really bad!!!! Total waste of time. Really dumb storyline, bad acting and dialog. I used to love all Hallmark movies and now I rarely can even finish one. Was the company sold? There has to be a reason they are currently so poorly made, with no name actors. Obviously your 10 line minimum rule is to discourage viewers from leaving comments. I leave comments and reviews on books, movies and music all the time and I find a lot have maximum requirements, but none have such a large minimum requirements. You should value feedback and make changes and improvements based on your reviews.

I love this tender Christmas madcap crazy movie. It has heart, soul, compassion and it is cast beautifully with a diverse ensemble of talented actors. It's 2014 and it's about time we start watching movies that accurately represents the U.S.A. Kudos for the great casting! Carlos Gomez is perfect as the widower and father of a daughter stationed in Afghanistan. Loved it all! And, as a bona-fide dog lover, well, it's a home run!
Hallmark Channel movies are great but I hope to see more stories with diverse cast. Anne Heche is also great as the frazzled mom who probably wishes she could have a do-over and start the day all over again. Ever have one of those days where everything goes wrong from the moment you wake up? One Christmas Eve is one of those days. You'll laugh, smile, and rejoice in turning it all around... if only it could be.

Just barely watchable.
If you love seeing a bunch of characters screaming at each other about everything in mock panic attacks, then this film might suffice. There seems to be no moral; when someone plays Good Samaritan to someone else in trouble, they wind up being the next victim of grossly exaggerated and unfunny calamity.
During accidents, you hear a familiar Christmas song as the tragedy takes place. Apparently they're telling you somebody getting hurt, or a fire breaking out is hilarious. It's not.
Most of the characters are not likable, especially the family. It's hard to care about a character that you don't like, or what happens to them, no matter how weird and contrived the events are. It's not too clear if they're supposed to be the stupidest people on Earth, or just the unluckiest, since the emphasis seems to be on how many bad things can happen to these people, rather than why we should care.
Think of "The Out of Towners," but with no heart or point, and you have this. Run a video of 34th Street or Wonderful Life instead.

I have been searching to see when Hallmark will show the movie again, sadly not the Christmas of 2017. Compared to the political climate this year, we need a break and this movie was a break for me and my family. It is 2 weeks before Christmas and this movie along with the family stories of the unusual things that happen at Christmas helped my kids smile a little bit. Too bad the general population spoiled that for us. I am just a grandma trying to make my grandkids smile a little.

Anne Heche can NOT act in this or ANY movie! And her voice is not compatible with "talkies.".....However, upon seeing the previews, and despite her starring, I was honestly looking forward to giving this movie a very fair chance...and really hoped to enjoy it.................. After all, it had the right basic "ingredients" otherwise for a very good Christmas movie: a puppy, Christmas décor, snow, and kids.
However, the first turn-off came very soon when Anne Heche screamed like a maniac several times at her kids! (No wonder her kids had no concern for her when she was lying on the ground!).
2nd turn-off: Shortly after that in another scene, her kids were screaming!
3rd turn-off: Shortly after that scene, Anne Heche ran into an elevator, faced the corner, and was whining and mumbling like an idiot!--->>>Immediately 4th and final turn-off: my TV!
I had enough!...Who wants to hear screaming and more screaming, especially in a Christmas movie?!...............The investors and producers seemed to fail to realize that seasoned, TALENTED actors and actresses are the ONLY ones worth investing in if they want a worthy movie! "Pay the extra bucks!"........."And also get a talented staff of wise casters and professional writers!"

BEWARE OF FALSE REVIEWS & REVIEWERS. SOME REVIEWERS HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW TO THEIR NAME. NOW WHEN ITS A POSITIVE REVIEW THAT TELLS ME THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE MOVIE. IF ITS A NEGATIVE REVIEW THEN THEY MIGHT HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FILM. I DO NOT HAVE AN AGENDA! I AM HONEST.
This TV-movie is a great film! Made for the Hallmark channel and so it is family safe. In this film a recently divorced woman finds a puppy in her yard on Christmas Eve. At the same time she sees a man hurt on her property. She takes him (along with her kids and that puppy) to the hospital. At the hospital one thing leads to another. The puppy escapes and the a little boy goes chasing after him. And this is just the beginning.
Anne Heche plays Nell Blakemore, a newly‐single mom who wants this Christmas to be extra‐special for her two kids. It turns out to be special, indeed, but it's not what she had in mind. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Chaos reigns in this entertaining comedy, and the notion of 'family' takes on a whole new meaning.
I do not want to give too much more away but this film is one everyone can watch and find someone to relate too! The Actors are top notch and the film makes no mistakes! It is available on Amazon to buy!
You should buy it if you do have kids under 12! They will love it! Don't wait until Christmas Get It NOW! Share with your family! Its the perfect film to have on while you are making cookies!

By far, the best part of this movie was when it was over. From beginning to end, the writing was horrible, the acting was even worse (by actors that nobody has ever heard of), the characters were totally unbelievable and unlikeable and the story line was beyond ridiculous. I can't comprehend how any producer could actually put their name on something like this. I would have rated it below zero if it wasn't for the cute puppy in the flick.
Christmas themed or not, this is the worst movie I have ever seen. If you like total trash, then this one is for you. For everyone else, spend your time just staring at a blank wall - it would be time better wasted.

This is both a review of the movie and a review of the reviewers here. First, and most importantly, the movie. One Christmas Eve is a fun, funny, charming, warm hearted movie about a group of diverse people who form a family on a crazy Planes, Trains and Automobiles Christmas Eve where everything that can go wrong, does. The moral of the story defines the spirit of the holiday and those who don't understand that, must not understand the Christmas Spirit itself. And that brings me to my next point. The bizarre, angry reviews I see on here aren't just common trolls, but seem to have some other agenda going on. Is it a Hate Anne Heche Club? Is it the multicultural cast and these Hallmark viewers want all their Christmases to be white, white, white? But what is clear to anyone who might watch this movie, and it is most definitely a movie worth seeing - and a movie impossible to get angry at. The sort of anger being posted here is more what one might find at a political rally as opposed to discussing an innocent, hilarious, good hearted TV show. The movie, I give a 10 out of 10. These crackpots on display here, I give a big fat zero if that was an option.

The movie on itself is bad. The acting besides Heche is below average, and the writing is even worse. the interactions between characters were awkward and poorly executed. The movie is predictable, and it contains a lot of clichés. But this movies does what it was designed to do. It don't require a lot of brain power, but is enjoying to watch.
The only good thing about the movie, is that Anne Heche is starring in it. Although this is an another way beneath her talents role for Heche. Heche on her own saves the movie. Thanks to her the movie is entertaining.
Not a complete waste of time, if you don't take it to seriously, you will enjoy this.

I'll keep it short. We watch Hallmark movies with the whole family - including our kids, because they're all reliably safe in terms of not having any objectionable content. This one had a bunch of troublesome material. It includes kids in peril, a robbery at gunpoint, a dangerous fire and explosion, and someone nearly getting run over by a fire truck.
Really weird and not for us.

I don't get the bad reviews here. If anyone tunes in to the Hallmark Channel looking for Oscar material, they're nuts. Most are produced by Larry Levinson and follow the same basic plot. Geez, even my husband recognizes this and asks when did the boy get the girl or vice versa. That said, I love the escapism that Hallmark movies provide, and thoroughly enjoy them. Face it; most of the plots are rip offs of other theatrical releases. That said, this movie is likely the most original, entertaining, and funny plot line I've seen out of Hallmark for a long time.
Just sit back and ignore the negative; enjoy a little feel-good laughter!

...Leaving all these bad reviews! Heartless! I just found this today on my old list of movies to watch. Found it on XUMO. OK! It starts out pretty SILLY and gets ridiculous from there. BUT, just hold up. From there you start really warming up to each character, one by one, as they enter the story. Yes, it's a calamity of sorts. But it's beautiful--in so many ways. I love the way they made it multi-cultural and natural, at the same time! The way life should really be! There was so much glue to hold this together--by all the actors. But Anne Heche was so good. They ALL were. I would watch this again and again, and if I see it at Walmart, I'll surely buy the DVD-just to be able to watch with my grand-daughter and every Christmas! Thank you TO ALL THE CAST, writers, producers, and director, for this treasure!
