I don't get why She the People has such low reviews, da faq? I legit LOLd multiple times throughout the show, a rarity for me. It's fun, and yeah it's political, and once you get into the style of humour, it really delivers.
Sure, the first episode or two takes a minute to settle into, and the main character can be frustrating; you keep wishing she'd speak up more or stop trying to be overly nice (compensating in a way). But that's kind of the point. It shows the real balancing act that comes with being a Black woman in a position of power. It plays with that tension in a light, self-aware way that's fun (and frustrating as a woman) to watch.
Honestly, maybe it's getting downvoted because it reflects on things people don't want to admit about themselves. But for me, once I clicked with the tone, I was laughing and enjoying all the characters - both sides of the spectrum.
Really hoping there's more to come as this show deserves a second season!!

Being a senior Black male who has lived in the south all his life and suffered from racial predjudices more times than I can count...I feel the show is demeaning. I am currently on episode 7 and the ways Black people are being portrayed is terrible. I appreciate Mr. Perry for many things he has done, but this one needs massive change. The only funny part I have seen is when the daughter was doing gymnastics. Other than that, I fail to see the humor. Whereas I am sure the intent was different, we see enough of the demeaning depictions of our nation from others, so we don't need it from our own.
First: It's a comedy.
Second: It does show the good and the bad of black society. These reviews act like the things that are depicted in the show aren't that relatable. I guarantee we all know someone in our family, and/or community, that can actually fit the characters shown. It's not necessarily bad. Just life.
Third: It shows the ups and downs of juggling life choices while trying to maintain an image, family, independence, and self worth.
Folks really need to get off their high horse of judgement, and just laugh at the comedy, or go watch something. I reallllllly miss the 90s mentality.

As a big Tyler Perry fan, I had expectations of more. The premise is great, but it was executed poorly, with characters that are so underdeveloped that they're just weak parodies. The lead actors are clearly more talented than what this story allowed. Depicting Antionette as unprepared, obtuse, and inept was NOT what I expected to see from Perry, who usually supports strong female characters. After 8 episodes, I didn't see the attorney who graduated top of her class become much more than "overwhelmed woman in a tizzy". And while I appreciate the attempt at southern humor, it was overdone. (Yes, I'm southern, but every single character didn't need to sound like Boss Hogg.) This could have been a great MOVIE, but fell far short after dragging out too long.
The plot is GOLDEN, I love the aspect of two parties/cultures under the same administration umbrella. They were on the right track with the current administration trying to neutralize the LT Gov. But something big is missing. From the episodes that I watched so far, the characters aren't fully developed, and it seems like everyone is trying to outdo each other for the sake of comedy.
The show needs a sense of synergy! Each character under the LT. Gov should have had their individual strengths that serendipitously contributed to small wins each episode. LT Gov: Book smart, Cousin: Street smart, Son: Tech savvy. Mother: Old world wisdom You get my drift. I really wish there was a balance of serious moments and funny moment. Right now the directors are too focused on making this as funny as possible and it ruining the show.
