How Dark My Love

Saw this at Tribeca and it blew my mind. It won the audience award for best documentary, which it well deserved.

This film is magical. It is so many things. It's a portrait of an artist and his muse. It's an exploration of the artistic process. It's a celebration of sideshow culture, burlesque, freakishness, and punk rock. But most importantly, it's a love story.

Artist Joe Coleman and the multi-faceted Whitney Ward fully exposed their lives to the camera for well over a decade. The filmmakers honored their vulnerability by telling such a powerful, personal story.

While this is movie an obvious must-watch for fans of the artist, Joe Coleman, viewers who have never heard of him will be equally swept away.
