Singsot

I am an Indonesian living in Yogyakarta, where the background of this film was taken. The translation into English needs to be improved, because the translation seems to be done through translating from Javanese to Indonesian before being translated back into English.

The adaptation of the previous short film is very good and does not reduce the essence or main point of the short film itself, in fact it exceeds my expectations.

The mystical ethics and taboos that society believes in are implied neatly and orderly through the storyline of this film. The movie brought down from horror to mystical at the end part was epic. The ending really captured what really happened in an amazing way.

I saw the trailer and interested right away. But when I checked the review, well, something must have not gone right.

Cinematography: two thumbs up.

Directing: one thumb up.

Plot: meh.

Script: ouch.

The entire story is not new. Voodoo and stuff. But applying it in local folklore is such a good idea. Unfortunately not well executed when it comes to forcing the thrill and the horror. It was supposed to be slow moving but raising to the end. One more important thing, please stop fooling the spectators with dreaming scene.

What I heard it is the director's new project for a horror film. Have a better luck next time.
