I grew up in Stratford Upon Avon and have seen more versions of Macbeth than I can count. This version enabled the audience to empathise with Macbeth and Lady Macbeth- the lead roles were directed and acted with incredible sensitivity and vulnerability. I cried several times and have never done so watching live versions at RSC. David Tennant's Macbeth was relatable but Cush Jumbo's lady Macbeth was the star of the show for me. The sleep walking scene made me cry and was in tune with the deep under currents of the play. The psychological aspects of the play were enhanced by the witches being absent from the acting line up. Clever modern interpretation.
