After being caught on a cell phone camera passionately responding to a student's ageist remark in class, lifelong feminist and social justice activist Dr. Joan Corbett finds herself facing devastating consequences. Joan is summoned to the office of her former protegé and current department chair, Dr. Diane Miller, where she is forced to explain her behaviour to the college ombudsperson, Morgan. At first, Joan does not understand why the student reported her to the college, nor why the student was so offended. Joan sees herself as the victim in this situation when her angry classroom rant was shared on social media without her consent. She stands firm in her resolve--until Diane raises the question of her mental competence. Joan then realizes she is being cast aside by her college, by her cherished colleague, and a new generation of students she struggles to understand. Despite her protests, Joan knows she must make an agonizing decision: sacrifice her integrity, admit she is wrong and apologize to the offended student--or after four decades of teaching, lose her job.
