Koreans are really good at doing revenge dramas. The Glory is a fantastic example but this one is very good too. The story of Seo Dongju a man with a fantastic visual memory navigates the dangerous tides of a chaebol family (conglomerate) while trying to save the woman he loves.
This intertwine with bad guys trying to eliminate him as he has in his memory the password for a secret fund worth 2 trillion Won.
The intrigue goes vertical, from the notion of society all the way to the Blue House (The Presidency).
Park Hyun Chik dazzles in this drama. I usually swoon over him when he's doing romance but here, he proves he can do a different genre with gusto.
Really worth watching.

The best part about Buried Hearts was Park Hyung Sik. The man CAN ACT, look handsome and express so well. Cannot think of anyone as Seo Dong Joo other than Park Hyung Sik. He gave it his best and it shows.
Buried Hearts was all about revenge and politics and less romance. It got off to a great start but didn't keep up till the end.
Hyung sik and Hong hwa yeon had great chemistry and I wish they had more romantic scenes together. And they should have made more use of hwa yeon other than having her call out 'Dong ju ya' in every episode.
The whole cast were great and cannot find flaws in their acting. The only flaw was the writers who couldn't come up with a more structured and interesting story.
Had a laugh at the Kopiko scenes. It was such a ridiculous product placement. I facepalmed myself every time they advertised it.
Watch it for Park Hyung Sik. Fall in love with him. I didn't like him in Doctor Slump and was hoping he would redeem himself. And so he did.

Watched Buried Hearts for Hyung Sik. And continued watching only for Hyung Sik. He was beyond brilliant as Seo Dong Ju. Acting, Looks, expressions - PHS nailed the role. I wish he does more shows like this where he can showcase his acting talent.
The show could have been better. Story could have been better. Strong premise but went flat after a few episodes. Some plot lines I really wonder what the writers were even thinking.
The female lead wasn't great. She seemed to have just one or two expressions throughout.
Everyone interprets the ending in their own way. I wasn't happy about it, but looking at the way the story went, it kind of makes sense.
Park Hyung Sik carried the show. He redeemed himself from Doctor Slump.

Seo Dong Ju (ML) is the standout character in this drama. Have you seen the pictures of him? Just look at the impeccable hair on this man's head, with each strand perfectly styled for every scene. You watch this show solely for him alone in his pursuit for revenge, while opposing forces attempt to uncover the secret code to a 2 trillion won political slush fund stored in his head.
Yeom Jang Seon, primary old man antagonist to our main lead, does a remarkable job of making you hate him every episode. What's worse is his hair is crazy too!
Female lead? Fuhgeddaboudit. This show's major flaw is the minimal role that Yeo Eun Nam plays in the overall narrative. The promotional images led me to disappointment. The initial episodes are the strongest because both the ML and FL are in it together, but as the drama progresses, FL just ... drops out of the picture.
The final quarter of the show features some messy writing. Things are wrapping up but the drama appears to set up for a potential second season, which may or may not happen. This leads to some unusual and unexpected character shifts in hope of securing another season.

Park K. S. gets beaten up quite a bit in this drama but thansfully his flawless skin, great physique and star power remain intact - thanks to K beauty secrets and the now scandalous Kim Soo Hyun having lost his place as the most popular and highest paid Korean actor. If it wasn't for the great soundtrack and cast popularity, the confusing family connections, absurd plot and badly written script would not have not made it to the charts. But one must feel for Son-ju. Ditched and beaten up over and over in the course of 16 episodes - it gets exhausting, what comes next? - he manages to survive ultimate betrayals and numerous attempts on his life thanks to his unwavering ambition and unparalled memory. Only Disney can manage to do this, Korean Style.

This is the first drama I've ever watched where I've been so hooked that I've eagerly waited each week for the next episode. It's such an exciting and thrilling ride that I can't get enough of it... like, seriously, it's so good, it's almost addictive. I've never experienced anything like this before! The plot, the characters, the twists - it all comes together so perfectly that I just have to talk about it all the time. In fact, I was so passionate about it that I ended up creating an IMDb account just so I could rate it and share my thoughts with others. I really wanted to make sure more people discover this masterpiece, because it deserves all the attention it can get. I can't wait to see where this drama goes, and I'm already thinking about watching it again once it's over. It's just that amazing.

I expect product placement in Korean dramas but usually it is subtle, in this one it breaks the scenes and the actors seem to suddenly be in an advert for kopiko which detracts from the tension.
That aside this is an enjoyable revenge drama where Seo Dong-ju (Park Hyun-sik) is the assistant to a chaebol and has an ill fated relationship with Yeo Eun-nam (Hong Hwa-yeon) a granddaughter in the family. Dong-ju steals a massive political slush fund from Yeom Jang-sun (Huh Joon-ho) and all hell breaks loose with the murderous consequences. It is an enjoyable drama but seems to lose its way a little in later episodes with the plot and pacing. The ending is left open with unresolved plot lines so hopefully there will be a season 2.

Episodes 1 to 6 are a solid 9 stars; it feels like smooth sailing. However, there's a sudden shift starting from episode 7 through to the finale. The script becomes messy, and you can definitely feel the change. After watching the ending, I understood that they are planning to set up for a season 2. The reason I rate it 5 stars overall is that I don't like how they structured season 1 just to justify a season 2. Starting from episode 7, you can notice the deliberate prolonging of situations that don't make sense. The production team and scriptwriters didn't seem to bother adding anything to make it feel less forced, resulting in a messy, boring, and disappointing experience. 5 stars is only for the consideration of amazing acting of the cast.

Buried Hearts writers, when I catch you it's ON SIGHT. May your pens run out of ink and your Wi-Fi stay disconnected. That ending shattered my soul in 4K. Trust issues? Fully unlocked. Healing? Never heard of it. Who let y'all cook?? I feel betrayed, emotionally assaulted, and spiritually abandoned. No one should ever recommend this madness again. I cried, screamed, threw my phone, and stared at the ceiling like a widow. It gave me love, then snatched it. Wtf was that?? I want compensation. I didn't like it at all. After everything you put us through, that's how you chose to end it? I feel cheated. No closure, no justice, just pain.

"Buried Hearts" grabbed me and forced me to binge. Some twists made me grimace and ask myself What? Why?
I was captivated by Park Hyung Shik's stunning performance. The other actors, despite questionable twists, turns, or dead ends, were superb.
The dialogue was excellent, the production lovely, and the OST well done. Action, drama, and comedic moments are well blended.
I would have liked more fire from Eunmam as she grows, and more about her business skills as well.
However, PHS rules. The character is complex, lethal, humane, focused, and caring. Amazing work.
I recommend Buried Hearts- not perfect, but pretty darn close.

To start with the good. Park Hyung-sik was terrific as the protagonist. He nailed the emotions Dong-joo was going thru during the series. Likewise, Huh Joon-ho was excellent as the main villain. He exuded well founded confidence and continued hitting back without become frustrated each time Dong-joo foiled his plans (usually via pure luck).
I loved the first episode. Even though I saw the signs that something was up with Eun-nam, I didn't figure out the twist until they showed the wedding venue. Great twist. That gave me hope for the rest of the series which, unfortunately, was dashed as I continued watching. The episodes up thru 15 were OK...just nowhere near where I had hoped they would climb. The writers had some great ideas and the twists and turns they introduced would do an American soap proud...they just couldn't seem to implement or follow through on them in a satisfying manner.
I was sorely disappointed in how they almost completely dropped Eun-nam from the story. She'd show up periodically but merely as filler rather than as an intricate part of the story. That was a great missed opportunity as the thread concerning her and Dong-joo's parentage opened up a great drama thread that was introduced and then skirted around.
I also felt the revenge thread was very weakly implemented. Most of the attacks on Dong-joo were overcome via pure luck rather than any great skill or guile on Dong-joo's part. And the final 'revenge' was very lackluster with it seeming more of a draw than a win for Dong-joo.
And after the disappointment of the overall series, looking back at the first episode, I realize how thin it actually was as well. Consider Dong-joo's ties to the company and that he was living with Eun-num, there is no reason he would not have known who she really was.
The one thing I really enjoy about most Kdrama's is the fact that they are a single season long and that they tie everything up in the ending. This one seems to be infected by the American penchant for follow-on seasons. That, in itself, is not necessarily bad if handled well by wrapping up everything introduced in the first season and perhaps having some hints at a new direction that could be taken in the future. Sadly, this one follows the American style where the wrap-up is weak, incomplete and unsatisfying.
If you are a big fan of any of the actors, give it a watch but otherwise, there are much better series available for your viewing time.

Good cast, good acting, good locations and settings - unfortunately all ruined by flat writing.
The first 3 episodes had me entirely hooked. Up until this point, I would've rated it 9-9.5/10 but I personally thought the show just dropped off a cliff from episode 4 or so onwards. Truly a missed opportunity at what could have been great - I wish they had maintained the tempo from the first 3 episodes. I forced myself to grind through the entire drama holding onto the hope that it would get better, but it didn't. Do i regret finishing it? Not really - but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The writing was just slow and not punchy. Such a shame.
