Survival of the Beast

"Survival of the Beast" is a perfect reflection of Max Djenohan's passion, deep knowledge of the natural world, and unstoppable thirst for adventure. Max doesn't just study wild animals - he immerses himself in their world with humility, curiosity, and deep respect. Episode 1, where he follows the path of Namibia's desert elephants, blew me away. I learned so much about how these animals adapt, thrive, and move through their landscape - and how much we can take from their example. Max brings science, storytelling, and soul together in a way that's both fun and deeply thought-provoking. Most of all, his message lands clearly: these wild places and the creatures that call them home are worth protecting.

I watched the episode mainly about the desert elephants. So fascinating! I did not know that there were elephants living in the desert and that they are able to get and retain water in some novel ways. I learned a lot and Max's enthusiasm was contagious. He is so game to try anything the animals are doing to see how it works for him. I especially enjoyed his going to the places the elephants were digging and discovering water under the sand. His process for filtering the water with reeds was amazing to watch. He has the survivalist chops. Really fun for all ages to discover animal adaptations and think about how we can learn from what they do. Cannot wait to see the other episodes!
