Ronth (2025) is a Malayalam movie that tells the story of two police officers who are on duty for a night shift at a rural police station. The movie takes place in one night and follows their patrol journey. SI Yohannan, played by Dileesh Pothan, is an experienced and calm officer who has been in the job for many years. His junior, CPO Dinanath, played by Roshan Mathew, is new to the police force and still believes in doing everything by the rules. As they travel through the night in their police jeep, they deal with different situations-some serious, some emotional-and we see how both officers think and react to each one. The story shows the contrast between the two characters: one who has seen it all and accepts the system as it is, and the other who is still trying to do what's right, even when it's hard. The performances by both actors are very natural and realistic, making the audience feel like they are right there with them. The movie is slow but emotional, with simple scenes that leave a strong impact. It doesn't have big action or loud drama, but it shows the real challenges and feelings of police officers on duty. Ronth is a quiet, powerful film that makes us think and stays with us even after it ends.
Ronth is a deeply emotional and realistic film. Some viewers felt that the climax was not satisfying, but for me, it reflected the raw truth of life - and that's what made it powerful. The film doesn't try to please everyone; instead, it stays true to its message.
Mollywood is known for creating bold and meaningful cinema, and Ronth is a great example of that. The direction was impressive, the storytelling was subtle yet impactful, and the acting was truly top-notch. Every performance felt natural and intense.
If you're someone who appreciates movies that stay grounded in reality and make you think, Ronth is worth watching.

"Ronth" isn't just a movie - it's an experience. It dives deep into the underbelly of the city at night, not through the lens of action-packed fiction, but through the raw eyes of two police officers doing night patrolling. The film quietly unpacks their shift filled with real-life cases - suicide attempts, harassment, kidnappings - all without any exaggeration or cinematic fluff. Just pure, grounded truth.
As the son of a police officer, this film hit me harder than most. I've seen firsthand how my father leaves every night for 12-hour shifts, sometimes not knowing what situation he'll face. His late-night calls to my mom, the tired voice, the unpredictability - Ronth captured all of that so well. It was like watching my father's life unfold on screen.
What makes Ronth powerful is its minimalism. No overacting, no unnecessary drama. Just two cops, their duty, and a city that never sleeps. The camera doesn't glorify them - it humanizes them. You feel their exhaustion, their frustration, their moments of silence, and the rare pieces of joy.
This film is a tribute - not to the idea of the "hero cop" - but to the real ones. The ones who keep the city moving while the rest of us sleep. If you want to understand what duty really looks like, watch Ronth. It's not just a film. It's reality. Must watch to everyone they will get to know how different is policeman if you try to understand them... : )

The name Shahi Kabir is enough to pull you into this interestingly minimal night patrol cop drama. The leads (Dileesh Pothan and Roshan Mathew) are well-written, and both their performances are superbly effective. We, as audiences, get to witness possibly one of the most compelling, challenging nights they go through as Officers on Patrol Duty (pun intended). The North Kerala landscape also adds so much to the proceedings, successfully sending chills down our spine when needed. The cases they deal with are also emotionally hard-hitting and carry life-altering consequences, making each incident either add more baggage or connect to a larger thread of events.
The setup is minimal when you think of it, but the writing and direction are splendid. The dialogues swing between humourously relatable and deeply moving; it's safe to say that both sides of the coin are effective. And when you know it's part of the Shahi Kabir Copverse™ (loved the Nayattu connection), you'd be anticipating that feeling of heaviness in the chest as the film concludes. I'm amazed how the writer-director can tell these realistically grounded stories as a cop himself.
Manesh Madhavan's scintillating cinematography (almost 3/4ths of the film unfolds at night), Anil Johnson's affecting music, and Praveen Mangalath's editing all help the film to a great extent. Certain parts of it could've easily been tagged as "psychological horror," and I would agree. I was instantly reminded of Training Day when I watched the trailer, but Ronth is a greater emotional beast, and it carries a core that's easy to connect to.

Malayalam movie Ronth what a neatly crafted police story just mind blowing.👌👌👌
It's a story of 2 simple cops who work on a night shift patrolling and what all issues and cases they face is the plot and next day how it changes their life is shown.
In today's malayalam cinema cop related movies are shown very realistic no stylish approach, no big bang entry , no mass dailogue and all just being simple and realistic. The credit goes to the writer and director Shahi Kabir.
Shahi khabir is now one of the best writers in malayalam cinema and all his movies are worth watching and best of the best . Nayattu, Eratta, Joseph , Officer on Duty All these movies gave different perspective and stories of a police Officer. Ronth movie will also be in the list of one of the best thriller movies to watch starring Dileesh Pothan Roshan Mathew .
Was suprised to see Lakshmi Menon .She was brilliant ..a excellent journey from.reels to reality movies ..well done.
Excellent performance by all the actors how these 2 cops Dileesh and Roshans character explore the traumatic events and deepest fears that they have to deal in their professional life they have done full justice to those characters.
A brilliant story that is hard hitting especially the climax scene. . If you love police stories, crime thrillers then it's a must must watch.
