The Disney+ series is based on Rick Riordan's beloved novels, which began in 2005 with The Lightning Thief and went on to become a bestselling sensation. Prior to the streaming series, Percy Jackson was adapted into two films starring Logan Lerman as the title character. Riordan revived the onscreen tale with Disney+, though, which dropped its first season in 2023.

Percy Jackson season 2 is set to premiere this December, but filming for season 3 is already well underway. Sea of Monsters, the second book in the franchise, will be tackled in the second season, while the third season will adapt the third book, The Titan's Curse.

I love seeing an openly gay creator succeed in Hollywood. Not long ago, that was nearly impossible. Dafne Keen recently opened up about the future of X23 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her character joined the MCU in last year's Deadpool & Wolverine.

Keen talked about her role in the MCU withScreenRantat San Diego Comic-Con, revealing she'd love to keep playing the character in the future. "Honestly, anything that brings me back to playing her, I would take," she said. "I think she's some of the most fun I've ever had on camera. And, honestly, it's so special to me that the people love her as much as I did."

She went on to talk about the origins of her role, which dates back to 2017's Logan starring Hugh Jackman. "I think I did it when I was so young, I didn't realize how much of an impact it had," she shared. "Then, after last year I've really kind of experienced how much impact she had in a way.

With her recent appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine, actress Dafne Keen has now revealed her intentions to return to the MCU and take the mantle of X-23 in the franchise.

In an interview with ScreenRant, she discussed her desire to reprise the character that she loved to play since her first rodeo. She said:

Honestly, anything that brings me back to playing her, I would take. I think she’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had on camera.

This can be a wonderful opportunity for Marvel Studios to capitalize on her character and bring the X-Men into the MCU by simply following the conclusion of 2017’s Logan.

Deadpool & Wolverine star Dafne Keen shares her hopes about Laura coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For fans of the Fox-Marvel era, Phase 5 of The Multiverse Saga included a special celebration of those films in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, which introduced several X-Men characters to the MCU franchise.

One of the Fox-Marvel actors to become part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast was Keen, who reprised the role of Laura from 2017's Logan movie. With her character already having fans, Deen's 2024 return has left audience members wanting to see more of her in the MCU.

Turns out, getting that role wasn’t as easy as it looks now. Therefore, looking back at her audition for Logan, during the 2025 Calgary Expo, Dafne Keen shared a surprising story about how she nearly lost the role of X-23 because of a really bad final audition. She had already done five taped auditions and was super close to getting the part.

Well I was actually 11… the audition process was long. It was like I think I did like five self-tapes… I think the director probably thought was like “Who the is this kid?” and was like “Oh she seems interesting.”

The performance from the sequel's red-band trailer continues a trend for the franchise that began with the 2021 reboot. The Lewis Tan-led film also impressed with its red-band trailer, following the previous McQuoid movie's record-breaking success, which cleared 116 million views in its first week and outperformed Logan and Deadpool 2.

The new red band trailer for Mortal Kombat II has smashed records, racking up an incredible 106.8 million views worldwide in just its first 24 hours.

According to WaveMetrix data, the trailer dropped on Thursday, July 17 at 9 Am Pst and quickly became the most-watched red-band trailer ever. It launched in 68 countries and was available in 47 different languages. Fans are eagerly waiting for the movie’s release on October 24.

The original Mortal Kombat movie from 2021, also directed by Simon McQuoid, set a high bar by breaking records for red-band trailers with 116 million views in its first week. It even outperformed trailers for popular movies like Logan and Deadpool 2 in early viewership. That movie did well at the box office, too, earning $23.3 million in its opening weekend, despite being released simultaneously on HBO Max.

The new sequel won’t have the same streaming release, so fans will see how it performs with a pure theatrical launch.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is still a few days from hitting the big screens, but it is already making headlines. WaveMetrix data reports that the latest trailer for the Simon McQuoid sequel has notched 106.8M worldwide views in its first 24 hours after being dropped on Thursday, July 17 at 9Am Pst — the best ever for a red-band trailer. The trailer launched in 68 countries and 47 languages. Mortal Kombat II opens on Oct. 24.

The previous McQuoid movie back in 2021 was also a red trailer record-breaker, clearing 116M views in its first week and besting the 4-day traffic of Logan and Deadpool 2.

Great views yield excellent box office. Despite a theatrical day and date release on HBO Max, Mortal Kombat opened to a robust $23.3M over April 23-25, 2021; that was about on par to the unadjusted 1995 opening of the first movie which did $23.2M.

Director Sean Ellis has had an unusual career; if it seems like his fellow Brits, David Mackenzie and Kevin Macdonald have been genre-agnostic, Ellis has taken things a step farther. He remains best known for the deeply affecting drama Metro Manila, which is essentially a foreign-language film. But a few years ago, he tried his hand at horror. He directed the werewolf movie The Cursed, starring Kelly Reilly and Boyd Holbrook, and while the film didn't make much of a dent at the box office, it's climbing up the streaming ranks following its Netflix debut.

According to FlixPatrol, The Cursed was the sixth-most-popular film on Netflix in the United States on July 20, beating the likes of Brick, Penguins of Madagascar, Despicable Me 4, and The Old Guard 2. That's quite a diverse slate of titles for any film to outperform, let alone one that barely got a theatrical release despite being designed for one.
