Not historical but emotional

I agree that it is not historically correct, but honestly i don't give a damn, it made me cry in the first three episodes.

I love the idea of knowledge fighting against reason in such a romantic way, furthermore it is not clearly said that it wants to represent Copernico history, so i don't understand why people are complaining about it.

Copernico and Heliocentrism were surely of inspiration for the story, but what matters at the end is the quality and the message of the story, not if it is "historically correct".

I liked it and i would watch it again.

I love the jump of times that they did, astonishing surprise.

Theology, Philosophy and Astronomy driven by interesting characters

If you are interested in questions of faith, philosophy and the history of astronomy in medieval times, this one is for you.

The characters are very well written and have convincing themes and motivations. Their actions are relatable and the plot is overall well paced, understandable while maintaining a high amount of tension.

Visually the highlight of this series is the gorgeous shots of the nightsky. Overall i would say it has a decent quality of animation and an even better than decent overall 'style'.

My one missing star is due to some scenes including torture. The series does not attempt to make the torture a 'selling point'; it feels like more of a necessary evil of the setting; yet for my taste they could have cut away (even more than they already do) in some scenes.

Historically Incorrect, However Interesting Life Lessons

I don't know much about Cornepicus and his life but after looking in brief about his life, the show indeed is inaccurate. But I think, it is intended that way. Their is a much deeper hidden message in the show and all the characters are oitstanding in their own way. There is a sense of positivity and hope and yes church and religion initially displayed as evil is actually far from it, they have a simple idealogy as well and you can understand later which is also correct from a general POV. You can see that idealogies and beliefs are so powerful yet people are always scared of their true feelings. The show captures the modern day aspect and in general about the authorities control the people and frankly speaking knowledge is the highest power which is very dangerous in the hands of the wrong. Just give it a try, it's such a beautiful show.

First ever series with an IDEA as the main character

It is one of the few truly inspiring shows that shows what the power of Truth means. It puts the idea front and center.

It manages to show what poeple like Marie Curie or other people who gave thier life for science must have gone through.

The art style is beautiful when it wants to be beautiful.

Each and every characters are thoughtfully written. Only show where almost everyone goes through the phases from an "initial purpose/perception", the "happenings" and the character development/conclusion.

It shows the darkest times, with the brightest individuals.

It is an instant classic, and this the series for you if you are looking for something short but exhilarating.

Deeply moving story with incredible characters

Ever since I saw the first PV for Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, I've been cautiously optimistic that this could be a sleeper hit of the Fall season. Animated by Madhouse (HunterxHunter, Frieren), Orb is dazzling to behold. The night skies and warm colors are captivating, and the characters' motivations and actions are clear, convincing, and wonderfully fleshed out. The music by Kensuke Ushio adds a layer to the show that helps the emotions hit harder and the scenery pop!

As a 25 episode anime, I'm hopeful we will get a full adaptation of this award winning manga! If you are interested in character-driven, emotionally hard-hitting anime like Vinland Saga or Frieren, give Orb a try and enjoy the ride!

Peak Fiction

Just a friendly reminder: this show is labeled as fiction and was never intended to be historically accurate. The plot summaries on IMDb and MAL don't explicitly address this point. To emphasize its fictional nature and alternative universe setting, the author deliberately uses terms like "P Country" and "C Religion" in the first seven volumes of the manga.

If you're wondering why the events in these volumes don't align with historical facts, it's because the author intentionally crafted the story this way.

As for why the church in the show aggressively opposes heliocentrism-a stance that doesn't reflect actual history-this will be explained later in the story.

A tribute to those who died for the truth

As a historical fiction, this is a fairly accurate depiction of how the church controlled the narrative through violence.

All the supposed witches who were burned and drowned, all the scientists who were executed are not forgotten. This is a tribute to those who gave up their life gladly so that we can pursue the truth.

Even though it is fiction, the situation depicted here is fairly accurate for majority who pursued science in the face of persecussion by the church. The fact that the church had an "Index of Forbidden Books", a changing list of publications deemed heretical or contrary to morality, makes it harder for the audience to take this as a fiction. The anime did a great job depicting that time period.

A kind of work of art and highly recommend

First of all, as the original author has already stated, this is a complete work of fiction. It may be unpleasant to see religion portrayed as evil, but if you watch to the end, you will understand that this is not actually the case , and also reminded me of the wonderfulness of religion. In an interview, the author said that he wanted to depict "intelligence and violence." violence does not necessarily mean physical violence like that of the Inquisition. Just as one sacrifices people for one's research, intelligence and violence are not polar opposites. It is very interesting that this story also includes modern economic thought from the 15th century onwards. In addition, the author said that he wrote the story on the theme of "A life where you have something to risk your life for is a happy one." I send my love to this honest author, who is only 26 years old. It's not flashy action or a fun romantic comedy, but I highly recommend it.

I got hooked on this show!

"LFirst off, this is an animated series slated to run for 25 episodes. While I rely on captions for the English translation, it doesn't detract from the experience at all. The show is fiction, but its themes resonate with the early years of the church, set in what feels like the Dark Ages-a time when science and math clashed with religious dogma.

The storytelling can feel a bit scattered at times, but that doesn't lessen the intrigue. As of now, eight more episodes are set to release weekly, and I look forward to them eagerly. Saturday mornings have become my time to watch the latest episode, and it's a ritual I genuinely cherish.

The series evokes deep, reflective emotions-often tinged with sadness, but in a way that feels meaningful rather than bleak. I truly enjoy it and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. That said, while it's animated, this is not a show for young children. It's mature, thought-provoking, and captivating.

How wonderful

It has been some time since I had seen work of such fine quality and exquisite casting, seasonal work as yet unfinished; What I saw was enough to surprise me. Awesome production and deep dialogues with a brilliant embodiment of the eras of church tyranny, and the escalation of the story in interesting new dimensions, and it is the first time I see a work in which the idea is to carry the banner of heroism. "Chi: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite" is a masterpiece that seamlessly combines science, philosophy, and humanity. The anime's thought-provoking narrative explores humanity's relentless pursuit of truth, often against the odds of societal norms and ignorance. Its beautifully crafted animation and rich character development immerse viewers in a historical yet timeless journey. Chi isn't just a story-it's an ode to the courage of intellectual curiosity and the unwavering human spirit to understand the universe. A truly inspiring and intellectually rewarding experience!

The Main Character Is the Story

If character development is one of the things you value most, this anime might be a tough watch. Here, the true protagonist is the story itself, while the characters play more of a supporting role.

The plot jumps forward through a series of mini-arcs, often changing the main characters, though some do recur. And that can be an issue-it is for me-because the quality isn't consistent. You might really enjoy one storyline, but find another painfully slow.

It's good to see storytelling approaches that break the mold, but I'm far from sharing the widespread praise this anime has received online. To me, it's decent, and I give it a six thanks to its stronger moments... but the weaker ones are hard to get through.

Bad portrayal of history of Copernicus

I don't know why modern writers love so much rewriting history so it fits their narrative. Copernicus worked for Church most of his life, he sent his works to the Pope. Also with scene about burning heretics, it did not happen. There were some witch hunts, but they were neighbour against neighbour where some blamed the other, not Church being like Communists or Nazis and looking around trying to find heretics to burn. Life of Copernicus is very interesting, idk why Japanese feel the need to change it all so it becomes interesting? It all feels sad, that there is portrayal of my country and they do such a bad job about it and people everywhere are praising it as historic media.

This anime touches your heart.

Imagine the world where we humans still believed God and they lived on the religion.

Imagine the world most of you don't have even an access to the book or any written source.

Imagine among that majority, there were some handful number of people wanted to "know" the truth of the world and pursue science.

This anime gives you a sense of how human moved the history and evolved. The source of their motivation was very pure. They don't have Google or Facebook. Even reading and writing are the special skill.

That's why, if you can imagine that, you will be touched. Human pure curiosity is very powerful.

It is very philosophical anime and great for adults.

A Deep Journey

This is one of the most beautiful, original, and fundamental anime of recent years. It has everything, but specifically what is essential in life today: honesty, reflection, inspiration, and truth. This anime is absolutely different from anything you've ever seen. Forget about the protagonists, the only true protagonist is the story itself, humanity, and its virtues and horrors. The backbone of the series is the pursuit of truth, dreams, and freedom, all set in a cruel and dark world. It tackles fundamental human themes such as astrology, theology, philosophy, the pursuit of truth, dreams, life purpose, friendship, empathy, rationality, curiosity, faith, fanaticism, human horrors, injustice, perseverance, and more. If we can read this today, it's because countless individuals, whom we may never know, made it possible, often unknowingly. This anime is indispensable, and everyone should watch it.

P. S. The opening theme is breathtakingly beautiful."

Once in a lifetime anime

*Orb: On the Movements of the Earth* (also known as *Chi no Shoukidou: Unmei no Sora e*) is a breathtaking anime that combines historical drama, intellectual intrigue, and stunning animation into a truly unforgettable experience. Produced by Madhouse and based on the manga by Uoto, this series has quickly risen to prominence since its debut, captivating viewers with its unique premise and masterful storytelling. Set in 15th-century Europe during a time of rigid religious dogma and scientific suppression, the anime follows the journey of Rafal, a young boy, and his mentor Hubert, an astronomer, as they grapple with the heretical idea that the Earth revolves around the Sun. What unfolds is a tale of courage, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of truth that resonates deeply with audiences.

From the very first episode, *Orb* hooks viewers with its richly detailed world-building. The medieval European setting is brought to life with meticulous attention to historical accuracy-crumbling stone churches, flickering candlelit rooms, and the ever-looming presence of the Inquisition create an atmosphere that feels both immersive and oppressive. Yet, it's not just the visuals that shine; the narrative deftly weaves together the personal struggles of its characters with broader philosophical questions about knowledge, faith, and human progress. The tension between the Church's geocentric doctrine and the heliocentric revelations of Hubert and his peers is portrayed with nuance, never reducing either side to mere caricature. This balance elevates the anime beyond a simple historical retelling, making it a profound meditation on the cost of challenging the status quo.

The characters are the heart of *Orb*, each one crafted with depth and authenticity. Rafal, the young protagonist, starts as a curious but naïve boy, only to grow into someone burdened with the weight of forbidden knowledge. His wide-eyed innocence contrasts beautifully with Hubert's weary determination, creating a mentor-student dynamic that is both touching and tragic. Hubert himself is a standout-brilliant yet flawed, his passion for astronomy is tempered by the constant threat of execution, making his every decision feel monumental. Supporting characters, like the enigmatic Jolenta and the conflicted inquisitor Novak, add further layers to the story, their motivations unfolding gradually to reveal the complexity of a world caught between tradition and revolution.

Visually, *Orb* is a triumph. Madhouse's animation is nothing short of spectacular, blending fluid character movements with sweeping celestial imagery that captures the awe of the cosmos. Scenes of starry skies and orbiting planets are rendered with a poetic beauty that mirrors the show's themes, while the darker moments-executions, interrogations, and betrayals-are stark and visceral, grounding the lofty ideas in gritty reality. The soundtrack, composed with haunting choral pieces and delicate strings, enhances every emotion, from quiet wonder to heart-pounding suspense. It's rare to find an anime where every technical element aligns so perfectly with its narrative ambitions.

What truly sets *Orb: On the Movements of the Earth* apart is its intellectual boldness. It doesn't shy away from exploring the moral ambiguity of its characters' choices or the devastating consequences of their discoveries. The pacing is deliberate, allowing viewers to sit with the weight of each revelation, yet it never feels slow thanks to the constant undercurrent of danger. This is an anime that respects its audience, trusting them to engage with its ideas rather than spoon-feeding simple answers.

In a landscape often dominated by flashy action or escapist fantasy, *Orb* stands out as a rare gem-an anime that dares to be cerebral while remaining deeply human. It's a celebration of those who risked everything to expand our understanding of the universe, wrapped in a story that is as moving as it is thought-provoking. For fans of historical drama, science, or simply great storytelling, *Orb: On the Movements of the Earth* is an absolute must-watch. It's a masterpiece that lingers long after the credits roll.

A masterpiece by any standpoint

This isn't just an anime... it's a meditation on the forces that shape human existence!. At first, we see and feel familiar themes: religion, philosophy, introspection, and realism. But beneath the surface, EVERY character's journey mirrors a different aspect aspect of human annd society existence! The intricate web of economic ties, personal beliefs, and psychological struggles that guide us through life. It explores the cycle of creation and destruction, showing how our convictions and circumstances collide, evolve, and sometimes collapse. Each moment is both a revelation and a challenge, inviting you to question what truly moves you as a person, not just through history, but through your own life!

An emotional work of art: It is not the people but the idea that prevails

Deeply emotional: theology, cosmology, astronomy, religion and science form the characters whose motivations make the IDEA becomes the center of this work. Curiosity and the desire to learn are the elements that transmit inspiration to other people. Names such as Aristotle, Ptolemy or Copernicus are only points of reference, history inaccuracy is irrelevant, since this story does not speak specifically about them but about the numerous people who receive and pass on the baton of knowledge in exchange for their lives. I truly enjoyed it. I am a scientist with experience in writing and teaching, so this was special for me. My mind, my soul and my heart were touched, and they were at ease. Thank you. Bravo.

The power of intuition. A must see anime.

The show contains deeper meanings beneath its surface. Each character is remarkable in their unique way. The narrative conveys optimism and hope. While religion and church initially appear as antagonistic forces, they're revealed to have a straightforward philosophy that makes sense from an objective perspective. The show illustrates how powerful ideologies and beliefs can be, while highlighting how people often fear embracing their authentic emotions. It effectively captures contemporary themes, particularly how authorities control populations, and emphasizes that knowledge represents the ultimate power, which basically becomes dangerous when misused. Far fetched but Ai is feared today for the same reason, knowledge. Its a must see anime for me.
