Prime Video and Korean powerhouse Cj Enm have struck a multi-year distribution deal that will bring a slate of premium K-content to the streamer’s viewers.

The pact, unveiled today at the Waves Bazaar, the market component of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (Waves) in Mumbai, gives the streaming platform worldwide rights (excluding Korea and China) to both new and library titles from the Korean entertainment powerhouse.

The agreement kicks off with the fantasy romance “Head Over Heels,” premiering in late June, followed by additional exclusive titles throughout 2025 and 2026. Prime Video will also add fan-favorite shows from Cj Enm’s catalog, including the romantic comedy “Her Private Life,” “Another Miss Oh,” and the detective thriller “Mouse.”

A key component of the strategy involves enhanced accessibility through subtitles in 28 languages and dubbing in 11 languages for all new Korean content launches.

While no official announcement has been made, an online account claimed that the two actors might join Jisoo in her upcoming drama Boyfriend on Demand (Previously known as Monthly Boyfriend). The frenzy began after a surprising post was discovered on a Korean community forum.

The original post claimed, “I heard that Jisoo and Seo Kang Joon were here, so I ran outside. Turns out they were filming – that’s a fact. They were wearing pink varsity jackets from some university.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the K-pop star is set to lead a new romantic K-drama series, Boyfriend on Demand, about a young Korean woman escaping reality to meet the boyfriend of her dreams in a virtual reality dating program. Blackpink’s Jisoo will take a step into virtual reality in Boyfriend on Demand, the working title for Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy.

Jisoo will star opposite Seo In-guk (Doom at Your Service, Café Minamdang) in the romcom series and play Seo Mi-rae, an overworked webtoon producer who searches for love on a virtual reality dating subscription program where “she meets the boyfriends of her dreams.”

According to an announcement of the upcoming comedy, Jisoo’s Mi-rae receives a “Monthly Boyfriend” device and “encounters unrealistically perfect boyfriends, awakening her dormant desires for romance.

Production has begun on the series which revolves around exhausted webtoon producer Mi-rae (Jisoo) who escapes reality through a subscription-based virtual dating simulation program, where she meets the boyfriends of her dreams. Jisoo plays Seo Mi-rae, who longs for a second chance at love in virtual reality. Accustomed to a nonexistent dating life due to her hectic schedule, Mi-rae receives a ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ device by chance. The Spanish-language YA movie follows a romance between Noah (Wallace) and Nick (Guevara) and bowed on Prime in December. It was tipped to launch strongly after the success of Culpa Mía (My Fault), the first movie in Mercedes Ron’s Culpables trilogy, and has duly delivered.

“Nails” tells the story of four women from distinct backgrounds and ages who meet regularly at a nail salon, leading to a transformative friendship. Many compelling romance K-dramas came out in 2024, but the best one surprisingly premiered towards the end of the year and is streaming on Netflix. Both in terms of viewership and overall quality, 2024 was a great year for romance K-dramas, with many memorable shows like No Gain No Love, Marry My Husband, Love Next Door, and Doctor Slump seeing the light of day. While some of these garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, others amassed cult followings due to their strong performances, unique story beats, and impressive production values.

However, long before the Christmas season arrived, and the clocks struck 12 to change the date to 2025, a brilliant romance K-drama arrived on Netflix. Following a weekly release schedule, the K-drama improved with each episode, gradually luring in more and more viewers. In a year where the K-drama industry is booming, the largest trend that’s taking over is creating “universes,” like Marvel. It is quite a shame that the genre, which was known for compelling storytelling that viewers related to, has suddenly chosen to look to the West for inspiration. On the other hand, there’s the obsession with webcomics being adapted for our screens, which is, of course, super exciting, but what happens to the original stuff? Don’t get me wrong; each of these approaches has churned out some gems, but it occasionally feels like something’s been lost. I will admit I found my love for K-dramas again this year. I can’t believe it’s been a decade since I started watching K-dramas, and over the years I used to consume everything thrown at me blindly. But, a few years ago, I realized I was exhausting myself instead of enjoying this pastime.

The ambitious Son Hae-yeong finds herself in a difficult spot at work. Only married women can join a new team with promising opportunities, headed by the brash CEO Gyu-hyun. Faced with a unfair choice, Hae-yeong acts to take charge of her own future. She proposes a marriage of convenience to local store clerk Ji-wook. Though initially skeptical, Ji-wook agrees to help his friend in need.

Their strange new arrangement draws from both courage and pragmatism. Hae-yeong refuses to let obstacles stand in the way of her success. Yet beneath her bold exterior lies old wounds – a breakup, feeling uncertain in relationships after helping care for her mother. Ji-wook sees in Hae-yeong both grit and hidden vulnerability. As they spend more time together, comforting friendship could blossom into something deeper.

Work brings Hae-yeong into contact with Gyu-hyun and novelist Ja-yeon. Their lives similarly intersect in surprising ways, against the backdrop of sexist expectations both women defy.

The answer we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. The K-drama that’s been on everyone’s minds for the last two months has finally come to an end and still continues to have mixed reviews right until its closing moments. Whatever reason you may have to like or dislike the show, there’s something that has everyone talking about it. Seok-Ryu and Seung-Hyo’s childhood besties-to-lovers story isn’t necessarily new in the K-drama scene, but it’s the way that it’s presented that makes the show stand out. Specifically with how much it focuses on both their families. Watching the final episode, I was reminded of how the show opened with the 4 ladies of the Lavender group—a foreshadowing of what the show was really going to be about, everybody. It’s often difficult to create a rom-com that’s got meat on its bones...

When I watched the first two episodes of No Gain No Love, I was a little bit confused about why people were raving about it as if it were one of the best shows of the year. After watching all 12 episodes, I can proudly say I understand the hype now. It’s not that it is a prestige TV. Even for a rom-com K-drama, it’s silly and very unserious, so why then do we like it so much? It’s likely because even though it’s got those silly elements, it never treats you like you’re stupid as an audience and provides wholesome stories that leave you genuinely happy. I didn’t think I’d be crying my heart out while watching the final episode, but here I was weeping. No Gain No Love is the perfect example of a show that creates a world that’s truly worth escaping into!

Ultimately, it will come down to just how many people watched No Gain No Love when it comes to whether the series gets a Season 2. 

In recent years, K-dramas like No Gain No Love on Amazon Prime Video have become a key pillar in the streamer's content strategy.

It's a full month at Prime Video and Freevee! This August, get ready for the Season 2 premiere of Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” Based partially on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Silmarillion” and set thousands of years before the events of the original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, the epic series covers the major events of Middle-earth’s Second Age, including the forging of the eponymous Rings of Power, the rise of the Sauron, and the last alliance between elves and men. The second season will premiere late in the month on Aug. 29, but first, take your own quest there and back again: on Aug. 1, both “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies will be available on the streamer.

The new month will also usher in the premiere of “Batman: Caped Crusader,” a new noir take on “Batman: The Animated Series” from original creator Bruce Timm.
