Of course I was not familiar with the 2025 thriller "Sugar Mama" from Tubi prior to stumbling upon it by random chance. And since it was a movie that I had never seen, of course I opted to check it out and see what writer Briana Cole and director Bobby Yan had to offer.
Writer Briana Cole put together a script that started out well enough, but rather quickly fell into a monotonous slump, from which it never really recovered. And that made the movie feel rather bland to watch. Sure, it was a watchable movie, but it was devoid of surprises and thrills, and it made for a forgettable viewing experience, if I have to be bluntly honest.
I was not familiar with a single actress or actor on the cast list, and that is actually something I enjoy when I sit down to watch a movie. The acting performances in "Sugar Mama" were fair, despite the bland script.
If you enjoy thrillers, then there are far better movies out there. While I did manage to sit through the entire 94 minutes that the movie ran for, I was only mildly entertained. And this is definitely not a movie that will grace my screen a second time.
My rating of "Sugar Mama" lands on a five out of ten stars.

I've watched a few 'straight to Tubi' movies... Most are of below average quality with poor production values. 'Sugar Moma' is slick looking movie and that's the best thing it has going for it.
A rich widowed investor decides to use a 'boy toy' app with eyes toward maybe buying into it. She sees a young man on the app that is a student from a lecture she gave and decides to pick him.
From this premise the movie deviates into a mishmash of plotholes. Just when you think the movie is about a lonely rich woman dating a much younger man the script and directing goes to another plothole.
This movie has a serious issue of not being able to follow any plot. This 'throw this in' script doesn't allow anything to develop It doesn't help that the lead actress is so bad - Latarsha Rose is such a stiff. Whatever she's doing her expression doesn't deviate much. I never expect much in terms of acting in these direct to Tubi movies however Rose lowers the bar even more. The rest of the cast is okay.
I watched the whole movie only to see how it ended- beyond that it is boring, unfocused and a waste of your time.

Good Review: The movie keeps you guessing with its twists and turns. Latarsha Rose, who plays Veronica, does a great job adding depth to her character. Overall, it's a gripping watch for those who enjoy thrillers with a touch of drama and intrigue.
Bad Review: Despite its strengths, ' Sugar Mama" for certain underdeveloped plot points; noted issues with the pacing and predictability of certain twists. Additionally, a few characters' motivations and backstories might seem underexplored meaning you might be wanting more.
If you're in the mood for a suspenseful ride, "Sugar Mama" might be worth checking out!

Overall it's got the production quality of it after school special or Hallmark Channel movie. The story actually isn't bad, but the scripting is. And that juxtaposition of concept is prevalent throughout the movie. From a technical aspect is clear to see that people do what they were doing but there's no energy or creativity or drive or anything interesting about really any of it. Basically it's got all the credentials, but really just certified boredom. At no point does the film start getting "more interesting". One of the things this movie does do well, is that it gives you a very strong desire to turn it off. Whatever you do, do not resist that urge.
This movie was absolute garbage! I don't even know why I wasted my time watching it. If you're thinking about watching it-DON'T. Save yourself the frustration because, honestly, WTF was that ending? What was the point? It felt like they threw together a bunch of random scenes, called it a script, and expected us to just roll with it.
Let's start with the morality of it all. So, the woman gets everything she wants, and the college kid-who, by the way, is the only remotely likable character-just gets screwed over? Really? What kind of message is that? If this was supposed to be some kind of deep, thought-provoking take on life's unfairness, they failed miserably. Instead, it just came across as lazy writing and a complete disregard for character development. There was absolutely no payoff for the audience. Why build up the tension if you're just going to let everything crumble without any real resolution?
And don't even get me started on the production quality. The cinematography was laughable, the editing was a mess, and the pacing was straight-up painful to sit through. It dragged in all the wrong places and then rushed through the parts that actually needed some depth. Like, did anyone on the production team even care? Because it sure didn't feel like it. It looked like they shot this in two weeks, with zero effort put into making it visually interesting.
Now, let's talk about the music. Who picked the soundtrack? Because they need to be banned from ever working on a film again. The music choices made absolutely no sense! There were moments that were supposed to be emotional, but then they threw in some weird, upbeat track that completely killed the vibe. Other times, the music was so out of place that it felt like it was being played from an entirely different movie. It was like they had a playlist on shuffle and just slapped songs onto scenes without thinking.
And another thing-this was NOT a thriller. I don't know who decided to market it that way, but they need to be held accountable. If anything, this was a horror movie-but only in the sense that I was horrified by how bad it was. I kept waiting for something thrilling to happen, but nope. Just a lot of pointless dialogue, characters making the dumbest decisions possible, and an ending that made me want to throw my remote at the screen.
At the end of the day, this movie was a complete waste of time. The plot was weak, the writing was lazy, the production was non-existent, and the characters were either annoying or completely irrelevant. I honestly cannot believe people got paid to make this. There are low-budget movies with more heart and effort than whatever this was supposed to be.
If you were thinking about watching this, do yourself a favor and don't. Watch paint dry. Watch grass grow. Sit in silence. Anything would be a better use of your time than this nonsense. 0/10 Would not recommend even to my worst enemy.
