When Life Keeps Getting in the Way

Nicely directed little movie. Some scenes were pretty funny, while others were very sad. It shows what life is full of: laughter, sorrow, loss, and mental illness for some.

I guess it is important to keep moving forward and remember that after every door that shuts, another one opens. After every tough moment in life, there is another serendipitous moment that takes us on a different journey filled with hope.

The film's characters faced hardships, yet their stories remind us of the resilience and courage that lies within us all. Watching them grow and find their paths gives us a glimpse of how perseverance can lead to better days and brighter futures.

Dramatic story with funny scenes. I guess life is full of both dramatic and funny moments. Donna Mills shines as a woman piecing together her shattered past in chaotic LA. With a witty script by Lili Matta, the film balances heart-wrenching drama with laugh-out-loud moments. Relatable and engaging, the story explores the struggles of finding genuine connections in a city of superficiality. Julie Sabray and Geoffrey M. Reeves deliver standout supporting performances. A must-watch for anyone who's ever navigated the ups and downs of life and love in the city of angels!" In other words it's "A poignant and hilarious journey!"

A nice and independent movie with a great story line combining drama and some humour. The film is about the difficulties of life and the complexities of relationships. I find it very nice, engaging and realistic. The characters are well chosen and the actors perform well in this movie. A must see.

It is 68 Melrose Avenue which made me look and review this one, although it was written and directed before 68 Melrose Avenue. So it is interesting to compare both in terms of actors direction and depth of thoughts. When Lili Matta decides to handle a subject it seems it has to refer and color present with the past. Each movie has a vision. THese are not "mass market" movies which are forgotten as soon as you have finised looking at them. In both cases the key heroes have to deal with their pasts to try to build their future. Death is also always present in various forms. Will this theme pervail in her future works?

You have to appreciate a truly independent film, one that clearly comes from the heart of the filmmaker. A sincere story about how our past traumas manifest in our current lives no matter how many years later. The drama pulls as your heart strings, and the comedy makes you smile ear to ear. And in one way or another we can all relate to it!
