This is a movie that share some senses of movies like recent "Substance" and "Climax". But it's not at all a horror - it's a blend of genres - psychological drama, musical and thriller.
The movies stands on really strong foundations - the opening one-cut is beautifully crafted in the terms of movie craftsmanship.
There are also a monumental scenes like club-rave and final posessed dance scene that will make your jaw drop off - especially that those scenes are being crafted within the pro dancers: Cordell Purnell and Willie the Genius. Fantastic sound design and techno soundtrack made by Jonathan Wing will cause your feet to move, and scary you at the one of the four great cliffhangers.
It is also remarkable to notice that the scream of one actors were sampled and used in various moments in the OST.
I really enjoyed the lights, coloring and dynamics in the scenes. As I know that the Director - Dominic Lehiff is quite recognizable and experienced director in the media/music and advertising industry I see that the all technical aspect works really great (even the subtitles sequence, which is insane).
So moving to the story and acting... I see that the actors (dancers?) are trying to do the best, but sometimes it feels that Sunye's dialogues come out artificially, and the story is really, really simple. On the other hand the character played by Lauren Kelisha Muller is a really shining bright star of this movie - she's acting naturally the character, as if it was her.
But - as for the movie about generational trauma - this is really great debut by the Dominic Lahiff, full of contrasts, cliffhangers, great ost and great, sometimes - monumental scenes.

Sun is one of the best films I've seen in a while. It doesn't shy from innovation both in storytelling and in its form. The music is so beautifully used to propel the story, like drums do in a spiritual ritual. It was really interesting how they brought mythology and spirituality into the present as well as the idea of generational trauma and curses. I also appreciate that the ending is complex, it promos questions, differing opinions, and deep thoughts. All of that feels really good right now one so many films aren't brave enough to take that risk. The camera movement of the film was another stand out- it's a beautiful film.
Refreshing and modern take on a thriller.
Loved that NYC itself played a character. Enjoyed it from start to finish and even when reflecting on it after.
Story was perfectly complex (as were the characters and performances) and the cinematography was incredible.
Some small details that I loved:
I left OBSESSED with the sound design. Perfectly done and it added so much, especially in the theater experience.
The opening and closing credits were .... **chef's kiss**. Seriously. Art in and of themselves.
Lastly, kudos to the cast: the performances from the cast were all so memorable. And big props to the director for drawing this out of them.
This is the kind of film that sticks with you for a while after you see it. Highly recommend.
