Glen Powell is terrific here

Glen Powell is terrific in Chad Powers. He's terrific in just about everything he does but this really stands out as one of his best performances. Chad Powers is about a disgraced college quarterback (Powell) who disguises himself as Chad Powers on a bad football team to try to revive his football career. What follows is a very entertaining and fun series that you'll have a hard time to stop watching it. This show knows what it wants to be and doesn't try to be anything else. If you're looking for a fun new show that you'll have a good time watching then give Chad Powers a try...you won't be disappointed.

Mrs doubtfire's draft day

A slightly cringe comedy with some heart and good messages, the opening 2 episodes set the tone going forward, you'll laugh, you might cry, you'll def say oof and cringe at some of the stuff.

It's a bit on the nose at times with the drama, and it's def referencing other works, but with a guy in make up with a helpfull new friend to fix it when things go wrong is very mrs doubtfire, and the struggling football star/ team/ coach does feel a bit like draft day.

As for haley welch, she's playing her self and being serious for a change.

Acting feels mostly on point, glenn gets to let loose from being a complete d bag to being a nice guy.

Some things stretch the believability too thin but it's a comedy and a redemption story.

Glen Powell is Hollywood's next big star

Chad Powers is even better than I expected and a big reason for that is because of its star, Glen Powell. Powell is Hollywood's new star actor. He's the current "it" person where everyone wants him in there movies/shows. He was just in a couple huge hits in the last year or two in movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, Hit Man, Anyone But You and a few others. He's in another blockbuster this winter in a remake of The Running Man. He's everywhere, which makes it unexpected that he would do a tv show. He said he did because he loved the script and he wasn't wrong. He's already proven he could do action, drama and romance and now comedy too. Get used to seeing Powell's face because you're going to be seeing a lot of it.

Funniest show of the year

Chad Powers is what we all needed. The funny thing is just like Ted Lasso, this was based on a real ESPN gag and the world is all the better for it. Glen Powell absolutely crushes it as Chad. I've found myself belly laughing numerous times. The supporting cast is also outstanding. I will be looking forward to Tuesday nights just to watch this. May be my favorite show of the year. If you need an uplifting comedy look no further than Chad Powers.

Extremely Funny

I've laughed out loud more times watching the first three episodes of this show than I have watching any other show since East Bound & Down. Glen Powell's ability to transform from Russ Holliday into Chad Power's and back, is as impressive as it is funny. Great cast overall, incredibly funny show. Cannot wait until the next episode.

Pretty good, and I don't like American football

Yes, I'm British so I don't get all the references and I have no interest in NFL, so what?

It's funny, it's not subtle.

People complained about the swearing, I genuinely didn't notice.

The cancer kid is a prop, it's not about cancer, it's about Chad's lack of humanity.

Anyone who criticises because "he'd be found out straight away" must think this is a documentary. It's not supposed to be realistic, that's part of the comedy.

People who give this 1 out of 10 don't understand ratings. You don't like it, but it isn't bad.

Laughing so hard

Russell starts the show off as your typical Unlikable self-centered child in a grown mans body. Finally gets kicked to the curve and decides to give it one last hail Mary .When he puts on the mask, everything Chad Powers says is funny. Ignoring the advice of Danny, the team mascot, he does everything wrong, creating a wildly funny character. The premise doesn't lend itself to a very long show run, but so far i find it very enjoyable.

Haters gonna hate.

Don't let the haters tell you this is a bad show. It's got comedy, heart and football. What else could you ask for? Definite Ted lasso vibes but admittedly not as good. I'd actually give it an 8 but I'm trying to combat the dumb 1 star reviews. A woman literally rated this a 1 star because there's swearing. Unclutch your pearls grandma, this is a great show.

That Depends On The Wolves

I put this show on just to kill time and ended up watching all 4 episodes that are currently available. Glenn Powell is proving to be a star in any role you put him in and he's great in this. Half way through the second episode it seems as though the show is gonna fall off because there's only so much you can do with this character but then episode 3 and 4 were great and has me excited for the next one. It's clearly a dumb show but it knows that and takes it in stride. Check it out.

Hilarious

First, I hate football. But the trailer intrigued me.

It's hilarious. It's doesn't focus on the playing of football.

Glen Powell is a great actor. When he is Rus you don't like him, but when he becomes Chad, he is a goofy nice charming oddball of humor. He is always giving people vague or strange answers and when asked to elaborate, it's always a unbelievable weird story, which is always hilarious.

The transition in scenes is well done as well, great directing. Great writing.

I have watched every episode several times, i always miss things I didn't catch cause I was laughing.

Not Original, But Thought-Provoking Enough

Chad Powers is a good show, even if it's not terribly original or realistic. That said, there really isn't much else out there tackling this type of story, so it stands out in today's lineup.

The core theme centers around a compelling question: can we truly escape our past in the digital age-and who would we become if given that chance? That premise alone is worth the watch.

The character development is paced well and the storytelling is steady. It hints at having the charm of a Ted Lasso-style story, but hasn't quite delivered that level of warmth or connection yet. Chad/Russell is not nearly as sympathetic a lead as Ted, which may limit the show's broader appeal.

Overall, I'd give it a solid 7/10. It has the pieces in place to grow into something stronger, but as of now it's more intriguing than inspiring.

Annoyed at Cliffhanger

I would give it slightly higher ratings were it not for the cliffhanger ending. It makes you feel like you've wasted your time.

The plot is mostly predictable. There is one surprise element but largely you can see where the movie is going from a mile away. However the storytelling and characters still make the journey enjoyable.

On a positive side, the acting was good all around. Yes, Glen Powell performs well but the most surprising was Steve Zahn. I will be following his career more after this.

All in all it was worth watching but the cliffhanger ending was super annoying.

Three episodes in...

Three episodes in and Chad Powers is bursting at the seams with comedy and heart. Each character bring their own quirks to the show, leaving you wanting more. Every episode flies by with belly laughs and more heart than could be expected from a show about football and second chances.

Sure the idea was ripped from mrs doubt fire, and an underdog theme is hardly groundbreaking but there is a sprinkle of magic in each episode that leaves you wanting more. Easy watching, adorable and fun - how could you go wrong?

Robin Williams Smiles!!

I am not a football fan, but I am a huge fan of off-beat, quirky humour that's physical and has a message. Glen Powell is the embodiment of all of that and carries this show seamlessly. The supporting cast, especially Steve Zahn and Perry Mattfeld, work a magic that is seldom seen in comedy. This is pure joy to watch, and it invigorates the soul in a subtle, yet poignant way. Long may this unexpected gem continue!

Short but surprisingly fun

Surprisingly good and unexpectedly watchable. It's not boring, maybe because the episodes are short, ranging from 22 to 37 minutes. That might be the only downside, since you have to wait seven days for a new episode that lasts only 22 minutes.

Honestly, I really liked the show, jokes are good and just enough. The cast is excellent. All in all, a funny and solid start, and first season definitely deserves a 7/10.

From now on, I will compare any downfalls I have to Chernobyl

First episode in and loving it. Funny, witty and I predict the rest of the show will have a lot of heart. Glen Powell knows what the people want. Doesn't take himself too seriously and gives the audience a character full of modern day flaws we can laugh at but also a character we can see grow........

It will get better

Russ Holliday (Powell) is former XFL quarterback who, after a scandal ruins his career, disguises himself as a new, unknown player to join a struggling Southern College football team under the name "Chad Powers". Inspired by Eli Manning's original sketch series, the show follows Powell's character as he uses this new persona to try and get back into the game.

Pilot was over-the-top silly, but episode 2 has more heart and more serious. Powell can certainly do comedy and Steve Zahn is a sure thing, in that he can do drama and comedy with equal skill. Zahn is particularly good in this, especially episode 2, so there's hope. Another veteran comedian, Clayne Crawford, plays the coach. He's also quite good as you'd expect.

Chad Powers isn't Ted Lasso by a long shot, but it could be if they dropped some of the stereotypes, in particular the bitchy side-kick (who naturally is gay) and the bossy blond boss who tells dumb jokes and gets her way with some sort of fake charm. The writing isn't terribly sophisticated, but Powell certainly delivers. Comedy is his thing, but there's dramatic talent in him that will certainly come out a lot more. The guy can clearly act (but we knew that).

However, and this is big, when one tunes into see Glen Powell, we want to see his beautiful face. Hey, it's Glen Powell ! But instead, we see his horrible made-up face with buck teeth and an oversized nose and a bad wig. Really? This seems criminal. Why didn't they do it in reverse, where Russ Holliday has the disguise, then turns into Glen Powell? Would you make Jacob Elordi unattractive for a TV series? Of course not. So why do it to Powell?

But fear not, since we don't get to see the handsome Powell we are treated to some other eye candy: Colton Ryan, Xavier Mills, and Quentin Plair. I'll definitely tune in for more. After all, It's Glen Powell!

Watchable, not the best sports show on TV

It's hard to watch this show and compare it to recent hits like Ted Lasso or even Stick, which does this kind of semi-progressive over-the-hill comeback story better.

Glenn Powell stars as a has-been quarterback who gets cancelled after pushing over wheelchair-bound kid in the wake of a game-losing fumble.

Powell's character, Russ Holliday, comes up with a scheme that seems highly implausible, even by the standards of someone who knows little to nothing about football (AKA me): Eight years later, throw on some prosthetic, adopt the name Chad Powers, and try out for a college team that he doesn't even attend classes at. The fact that the last part gets swept under the rug is a commentary on the tendency of big college programs to look the other way, it's still pretty weak.

With the assistance of the school mascot (Frankie Rodriguez) (who happens to be gay, so there's an attempt at diversity points here), Chad is able to make it through the tryouts.

The show tries to incorporate a number of elements -- a slow burn romance between Chad and the coach's assistant (Perry Mattfield); a classic sports story; a classic redemption story; a comedy of errors; a B-plot involving a father (Steve Zahn) learning to trust his daughter; an odd couple heart-filled relationship between Chad and the mascot -- but it hardly develops any of these threads.

Besides his relationship with the mascot, almost none of his other teammates is anything beyond an extra. As a result, a lot of team-centered stories are neglected. The romance angle is an incredibly slow burn, which adds a level of realism, but it's not enough to hold audience attention through the first half of the season

With Chad's relationship with the mascot character, the climate of the team is so difficult to gauge, that there's not even enough of a baseline to examine if their partnership/friendship is supposed to be seen as uplifting in a homophobic locker room, or passe in an era where there are already out players in the NFL.

There's also some level of generational trauma between Russ/Chad and his dad, but that doesn't get enough screentime to get us invested in that.

At the same time, things start clicking enough by the fourth episode that there's reason (at least for this viewer) to keep watching. Lots of shows have had poor starts and there's enough room to grow if some of these elements get more densely developed.

Refreshing humor

Wasn't sure what to expect, but I was hooked from the start-laughed way more than I thought I would! Chad Powers nails that classic redemption arc with a chewy moral core that keeps you rooting for him. The chemistry between Chad (Powell), the Head Coach (Zahn), and Daughter/Coach Ricky (Mattfeld) is spot-on-funny, heartfelt, and just the right amount of awkward charm. It manages to be sweet, hilarious, and uplifting all at once. I love the way it sprinkles in the message of second chances without being preachy. Honestly, I'm bummed there are only two episodes out so far-we wanted to binge more right away. Can't wait for the other episodes!

Opportunism at its worst

Take some Eli Mannng youtube comedy and turn it into a series!! Genius!! The videos have millions of views, this'll be great!

But it's not great. At all. It's a bunch of tropes and dumb dialogue. Got bored after 2 episodes, no plans to ever go back. The show screams "uncreative business execs were involved heavily" because it's purely an opportunistic play meant to "capture eyeballs" rather than actually do something real or interesting.

I dont mind Glen Powell - he's doing his best with the material, but the writing and the music are really rough to endure, and there are far better things to watch or go see right now.

I have to assume Disney or whoever produced this is stacking the "10! Best show ever!!" ratings. They seem fake and nobody on earth thinks this is a "great" show. It's average, and one season is more than enough.

Really fun and light hearted series

First, this is a forum for reviews. Not everyone is going to love or hate a show and when considering whether or not to watch something I welcome both perspectives. With that said I really wish some reviewers would quite saying "ignore the negativity" or "don't believe all the hype" when sharing their POV as if their perspective is all that's important. Pardon my digression.

Chad Powers turned out to be a fun uplifting series about the power of second chances and most of all forgiveness. Maybe a little Mrs. Doubtfire meets Ted Lasso. As a die hard UGA fan I was at the 2024 GA/Miss State game where the final episode was filmed and as a Glen Powell fan had been anxious to see the series. For the most part I loved it and was strangely rooting for Chad in the finale when he walked on the field to face off with my beloved Dawgs. If you're a CFB and especially SEC fan you'll probably get a big kick out of the show. My only frustration is there were just 6 short episodes. Hopefully we'll get a second season, at least.

Who directed this?

This is horribly paced, the music is beyond bad. I mean the musical director should be fired and out of a cannon. The mode of scenes are horrible and dont really follow how you should be feeling. A six year old knows this is off in pacing, music, and direction. It was a sily idea and should have been silly through out but forced drama with theartircal drama music was just wrong.

Watch this!

I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard! Chad Powers is pure comedy gold. Every moment had me hooked, from start to finish. The wit, timing, and ridiculous charm made it impossible not to love. Absolutely hilarious and easily one of the funniest things I've ever watched. I'll be quoting lines from this for weeks. It the kind of comedy you want to rewatch and share with everyone you know! Very light hearted and fun viewing.

Epic spin off

Great series based on a funny YouTube video. High hopes for the rest of this series. I was expecting a minimal story. So far it has been great acting followed by surprisingly clever and raunchy jokes . I'm really hoping this series continues more than the 4 episodes showing right now . This has potential to show spinoffs of other characters.
