With less than half a minute into the first episode, the clichés of modern storytelling were served.
The story is riddled with clichés, predictable twists, and underdeveloped characters that make it difficult to become emotionally invested. The protagonist's motivations are shallow, and the supporting cast is mostly reduced to stereotypical archetypes. The pacing feels uneven, with sluggish exposition dragging down the first act and a rushed finale that resolves conflicts too conveniently.
The dialogue is another weak point. Many lines feel forced and to some extent unnatural. The cast's performances are hindered by a script that fails to provide depth or nuance.
That's all I have about this one.

Lots of familiar traits from Harlan Coben's characters in this adaptation of his book, and similarly as with so many of his books, it would be good to not have as many twists that you can see a mile off, once you've read other stories.
The series does rattle along at a decent pace, with Steve Pemberton doing his usual creepy character best, in some scenes that are quite unexpected.
Pemberton's strand through the story provides the best amd most engaging part of it all with the odd unexpected twist.
All in all, if you've seen other Netflix adaptations of HC's books you know what to expect. Not the best thing you'll ever see, but fine for binging on a new year's day. Good, too, that it didn't have too many episodes and get bloated.

Decent enough Harlan Coben thriller drama set in Manchester and surrounding countryside with a well known and familiar cast, weaving intertwined plot themes, it's well paced and improbable fun, entertaining enough to keep you glued in but definitely a bit far fetched in places - some excellent names in there and well acted but gritty believable realism it ain't. Perhaps that's not the point anyway and if you can turn a blind eye to the very visible plot holes and rather unlikely criminal and police prodecural situations then it's width one's time. But it's a fast food style criminal thriller - enjoyable but ultimately unsatisfying, not a gourmet offering you might be hoping for.

The leading actress was all that kept me hooked, but the rest of the acting was so patchy and unconvincing - even from the bigger names. There were plot lines that led nowhere, explanations not given, superfluous characters that just cluttered things up, and lots of truly incredible events and coincidences. The locations were good, but there was the increasingly annoying and inexplicable decision to use the 'teal and orange' colour scheme throughout - which is SO irritating and crops up all the time (The A Word, Ludwig etc) for no good reason whatsoever - and once you notice it it's SO distracting.
Average.

This is the first time I've written a review but I felt I had to as it definitely wasn't as bad as people are saying.
I am notoriously hard to please and never watch anything under a 7 but I really wanted to like this as I like so many of the actors.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was bright and glossy and pretty easy to follow. The actors all did a great job but it had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing.
The main characters did an especially good job and didn't disappoint me at all.
Definitely give it a go and go into it with an open mind.
I have now learnt that I should watch more things with a rating under 7.

This feels like a show that was written by an AI: the characters are bland, the story is full of plot holes, the dialogue is weirdly stiff, the narrative is unbelievable. Except for Rosalind Eleazar in the leading roll every actor in this does a bad job, but it might not be their fault, the script does not give them much to work with.
I often dislike Harlan Coben adaptations, as they tend to be one-dimensional and too heavily reliant on plot twists, and this is the worst Coben adaptation I've seen. I can't imagine the book this is based on is any good, but I also can't imagine the book is as bad as this.

Head of the missing person's unit, DI Kat Slater, has her world turned upside down when she matches with her ex, Josh, on a dating app. At the same time she gets word that her father's killer is dying of cancer, a meeting with him raises questions.
I enjoyed it, after a patchy first episode, it does open up pretty well, and if you're a fan of Harlan Coben's work, then you'll enjoy it, the usual traits are here. Lots of intrigue and suspense, there are several questions you'll want answers to, the main one being if Josh is alive or not.
Some of the reviews are nonsensical, and I wonder if some are based just on the first episode alone, it definitely gets better.
Five episodes was about right, I'm glad they didn't stretch it out over any more. Easy to understand, at no point was it ever too complex or hard to follow.
Some fine performances, and some wasted opportunities. I loved seeing Steve Pemberton playing a villain, he clearly had a blast. The likes of Marc Warren, Lenny Henry and James Nesbitt were all a little wasted.
The moral of the story, you never know who you're chatting to on a dating app.
8/10.

I really don't understand all the bad reviews. I'm a fan of the author and I've read most of his work. I don't remember names of books as I read too much so I went into this not knowing the story even though I knew I had read it. It didn't take long before I remembered, but had forgotten enough to enjoy it all over again. And since I watched it all in one sitting, I think I can say it was enjoyable. It's not Oscar worthy, but still an entertaining show. I thought the main actress did a really good job and there were plenty of others that I felt were good as well. There's a lot of angst involved but was justified. Some twists as well. Take a chance on this one if you enjoy police procedurals with a female detective. It's really not a bad effort as so many reviews are saying. I rated it 7 which means I thought it was pretty good.

I have watched and/or read quite a few Harlen Coben stories, so I was duly excited to see this promoted. Now, I sort of wish I could get some time back.
Overall, Missing You wasn't bad, it just wasn't extraordinarily good either. The main actress kept me watching. Just like any other Coben a fascinating mystery is created with lots of unanswered questions. However this one often either solves questions too tritely or leaves some unanswered questions hanging on too long. I wanted more detail and back story on a lot of this and even by the end there were still some dropped plot lines or completely unanswered questions. We also were not given compelling motivations for many of the characters. It was just rather messy, and it felt incomplete. Definitely not my favorite.

First of all, when I first watched the official trailer of the tv series I liked it and that's the reason why I decided to watch it. Eventually, it was just an average tv series and probably I wouldn't watch it more than once. The tv series synopsis was interesting and mysterious, even though there are many shows/movies similar to this one. Unfortunately, the storyline wasn't well-written because there were many plot holes and it wasn't well-explained. The main characters were kinda interesting, well-developed and likeable. The filming locations of show (UK) were beautiful and the cinematography was well-done. The casting choices were nice and their performances were descent. I have to admit, it was a kinda intense show and there were some suspenseful moments, however there weren't any insane plot twists. Gladly, the runtime and pacing of each episode wasn't too long, even though there were some boring parts during the show. In my opinion, the final episode was probably the best episode of the show. The ending was kinda unpredictable, but it wasn't well-explained. Overall, "Missing You" was an average tv series, kinda mysterious, but it wasn't well-explained and that's the reason why I wouldn't recommend it to my friends.

I'm a huge Harlan Coben fan and was very much looking forward to this adaptation. I sa3 it through to the end but wish I'd gone with my instinct and given up after the first episode. I don't think Harlan's novels translate well into British shows.
The characters are unlikable, annoying and wooden.
The dialogue is cringey and forced.
There was zero chemistry between the actors.
Plot holes and unnecessary story lines.
Continuity and attention to detail is poor.
There is a lot of jumping to conclusions and coincidences.
Big talents like Lenny Henry, James Nesbitt and Steve Pemberton were just wasted.
By the end of the series I was just glad it was over.

Having never read the books I always think Mr. Coben sits down and writes everything as an afterthought to make everything tie in but tie in it does ! I love the guessing nature of every episode, no one can be trusted , he's bad , she's bad ,they're bad, he did it , she did it, they did it . Every episode leaves you needing answers which obviously makes it so binge worthy. Sit back , leave your brain at the door , call out every plot hole , inadequacy, strange character name (Reynaldo being one of my faves )for where it's set but love it nonetheless and look forward to the next Coben/Netflix collab.

When I first saw this series, I wasn't sure if I should even watch it because of all the bad reviews. I'll admit, I was a bit hesitant and kept my expectations pretty low. But honestly, it ended up completely blowing me away. The story was super engaging, and there were so many unexpected plot twists that kept me guessing the whole time. Every time I thought I had things figured out, it would throw in another surprise that made it even better. I also thought it was really interesting that there was like two parallel stories, just added a bit of variety. I ended up binge-watching the whole thing because I just couldn't stop-I had to see what happened next. I honestly don't get why it got so much hate because it was so much better than I thought it would be. If you're into suspense, drama, and unpredictable stories, this one is totally worth checking out.

The plot unfolds two parallel stories: in one a detective investigates a missing persons case in which her long-lost ex is a suspect; in the second she tries to solve her father's decade-old murder. The first story is decent albeit somewhat cliched, with clear stakes, logical progression and a calculating villain. The second is convoluted soap-opera melodrama with about 10 twists too many. These two stories barely intersect and each undercuts the other's momentum. The resolution to the latter mystery is decidedly underwhelming. Overall the series is a forgettable diversion, neither especially bad nor particularly compelling.

Having watched all of the Netflix Harlan Coben adaptations so far, this was easily the worst and most frustrating of a varied bunch.
Our main character is not terribly likeable and has very little development or personality.
The final plot reveals are hugely disappointing as they don't make any sense coming from the characters involved. The questions posed at the start of the show are answered vaguely early on, then fail to develop into anything of substance or intrigue, dragging on despite the series only being 5 episodes long.
It was hard to understand why anyone did what they did in this show, as the writers' approach was more "stuff just happens" than believable character arcs, mystery, or logical plot threads.
It was quite nice to see shots of Manchester, and the actors did what they could with a terrible script.
