Amazon Original Movies’ head of physical production Glenn Gainor is exiting to launch Hollywood Ventures Group, a new production company and consulting firm is co-founded with Entertainment Media Ventures head and CAA veteran Sandy Climan.

“Hollywood Ventures Group redefines the future of film and television production and distribution by delivering an innovative ‘Hollywood in a Box’ model to global partners in emerging and maturing markets,” the company’s website states. “With a bold mission to build the first truly global studio, Hollywood Ventures Group connects top-tier talent, strategic capital and cutting-edge technology to serve creators and companies worldwide across film, television and digital platforms.”

Quincy Tyler Bernstine has been cast in a series regular role in Liz Meriwether’s upcoming Hulu series, Variety has learned exclusively.

Bernstine joins previously announced cast members Emmy Rossum, Lola Petticrew, and Scott McNairy in the untitled show, which is loosely inspired by the 1987 movie “Black Widow.” The show was originally announced in March.

The official logline for the show states, “An FBI agent (Rossum) uses the secrets from a female serial killer’s (Petticrew) past to try and find her.” Bernstine will star as Nora, described as “a veteran FBI agent working alongside Alice (Rossum) in the department who has worked on hundreds of homicides and human trafficking cases.”

Exclusive: The Penguin breakout Rhenzy Feliz is the newest addition to the cast of How to Rob a Bank, director David Leitch’s bank heist actioner for Amazon MGM Studios, Imagine Entertainment, and 87North Productions.

Written by Mark Bianculli, the film’s plot remains under wraps for now, as does Feliz’s role alongside Nicholas Hoult, Anna Sawai, and Pete Davidson.

87North’s Kelly McCormick and Leitch will produce alongside Imagine’s Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum, with Bianculli exec producing. The film enters production this summer and is slated for release in theaters on September 4, 2026.

The third season of Taylor Sheridan's mob drama Tulsa King is expanding its cast with new additions. Just a couple of days ago, we learned the series would be returning for a third season, and now we're learning about two actors who will join the Sylvester Stallone-led series. Robert Patrick(of Terminator 2: Judgment Day fame) and Beau Knapp have joined the series in villainous roles (via Deadline), so we can expect a face off against Stallone's Dwight "The General" Manfredi.

Ben Affleck’s gripping crime thriller The Town is heading to streaming, giving audiences a chance to revisit one of the best gangster films of the 2000s.

Starting April 1, 2025, Tubi subscribers can watch The Town, a tense and action-packed heist film that cemented Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's Affleck as both a skilled director and leading man. Versions of a feature film adaptation have passed through the hands of directors like music video maker Chris Cunningham, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob‘s Chuck Russell, Torque‘s Joseph Kahn, Cube‘s Vincenzo Natali, and Deadpool‘s Tim Miller. An adaptation of Neuromancer is currently moving forward as a 10-episode series that’s set up at Apple TV+, and we’ve previously heard that BAFTA Award-nominee Callum Turner of Masters of the Air and The Boys in the Boat will be playing the lead character, Henry Dorsett Case, while Briana Middleton of Sharper and The Tender Bar takes on the role of Case’s partner Molly, “a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes.

Tye Sheridan isn't sure if he'll be back as Cyclops in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor, who portrayed the younger version of James Marsden's X-Men leader, recently cast doubt on his return during an interview to promote his new thriller The Order.

Sheridan addressed his possible return as Scott Summers/Cyclops in the MCU while speaking with Screen Rant, sharing, "I don't know. I don't think there's a question if there's more stories to tell. I think there's probably always more stories to tell. The question is whether audiences have a desire for those stories and whether we feel like those types of films have been oversaturated or they're not, or if there's a new way to make those films. But yeah, I'm not real sure."

The Paramount+ spy thriller series Lioness has added three new cast members for its upcoming Season 2, set to premiere Oct. 27. According to Deadline, Max Martini, Kirk Acevedo and Patricia De Leon will be in Season 2 as recurring characters. Lioness, created by Taylor Sheridan, who also created the Yellowstone, 1923, 1883 and Tulsa King and several other Paramount+ shows, stars Zoe Saldaa, who also serves as executive producer.

Most recently, Martini was seen in The Tender Bar, directed by George Clooney and was the lead in Eli, a Netflix feature film. He was also in the independent film The Channel and will be seen in the upcoming Osiris with Brianna Hildebrand.

Briana Middleton and Stella Everett have been cast in leading roles for the feature adaptation of “Ride or Die,” the short film by filmmaker Josalynn Smith.

Smith serves as writer and director for the feature, executive produced by Datari Turner of Foxxhole Productions. Smith will also produce alongside Matthew Keene Smith.

The film follows Paula (Middleton), whose California dreams intertwine with a reunion with her crush Jamie (Everett). A casual errand becomes a cathartic journey through the midwest, where a budding romance is transformed by a plot for vengeance.

Wolfs has earned the best Rotten Tomatoes score for star George Clooney in eight years. The Brad Pitt and George Clooney movie features the stars as a pair of "lone wolf" fixers who find themselves hired to work the same job and are forced to work together in order to get themselves out of a sticky situation. Well-known American filmmaker and actor Mark Duplass partnered with Netflix to create a teen drama series called Penelope. It's set to be released on the streaming platform on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024. More on this upcoming Netflix show below.

Penelope comes from Duplass's Duplass Brothers Productions. You might recognize Duplass from his acting work in the movies Creep, Creep 2, Safety Not Guaranteed, Tammy, The Lazarus Effect, Tully, Bombshell and Biosphere. He also starred in the TV sitcom The League, the romantic comedy series The Mindy Project, the comedy-drama series Togetherness and the legal drama Goliath. Briana Middleton, who starred alongside Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan in the 2023 Apple TV+ film Sharper, has been tapped as the female lead in Neuromancer, the streamer’s series adaptation of William Gibson’s classic sci-fi/cyberpunk novel.

First ordered to series in February and spanning 10 episodes in its first season, Neuromancer follows Case (to be played by Masters of the Air‘s Callum Turner), a damaged, top-rung super-hacker who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime with his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes, aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.

Exclusive: Briana Middleton (Sharper) has been tapped as the co-lead opposite Callum Turner in Neuromancer, Apple TV+’s new sci-fi drama based on the award-winning novel by William Gibson.

“Extremely Unique Dynamic,” a comedy drama film that plays at the Frameline Festival in San Francisco, is set for release later this year in North America.

North American rights to the picture were acquired by distributor Strand Releasing, which says it plans a late fall theatrical release.

The U.S.-produced film chronicles “two best friends who test the limits of their relationship while making a triple-meta movie.” It had its debut in March at the Sonoma International Film Festival and followed that with appearance at Inside Out and CAAMFest.

The film is directed by Ivan Leung and Harrison Xu and stars Leung (“The Tender Bar”), Xu (“Last Summer of Nathan Lee”), Hudson Yang (“Fresh Off the Boat”) and Nathan Dean (“Ginormo”). Cinematography is by Steven Shulgach, editing by Michael Scotti Jr., sound design by Nikola Simikic and the original score by Ian Mackley.

The Oscar winner recently spoke with Sky News about his latest directorial project, the film The Boys in the Boat.

During the interview, Clooney admitted that when it comes to directing compared to acting, “It’s more fun, you have a lot more control. I get to boss them around and I don’t have to learn how to row,” he quipped.

The Gravity actor added, “It’s fun to come in in the morning and it’s fun to write a screenplay and then have somebody build a set that you wrote, it really is.”

Based on Daniel James Brown’s non-fiction novel, the picture concerns the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. The trailer hits all the underdog sports team cliches, although cliches become as much for a reason. The picture looks handsomely staged and impeccably acted by the likes of Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner.

This marks Clooney’s first directorial effort since the Ben Affleck-starring “The Tender Bar” in 2021. It’s unquestionably a sign of the times that Clooney hasn’t directed a feature for a theatrically focused studio since “Rubicon” for Paramount in late 2017.
