Nagi no Asukara

Nagi no Asakura was a very entrancing series. The details were very vivid and the characters are well developed in a suitable pace where the story takes you into itself. It was like the sea itself where you can submerge as a diver. Then as you feel the water around you, you realize how beautiful it is and that it was going to be a memorable experience.

The plot was well thought out and the idea of "sea people" and "land people" was quite original. Naturally, viewers would have a lot of questions in mind and the series would be there to answer the questions. I certainly felt immersed in the series. There were a lot to know and a lot to appreciate in this wonderful show. 10/10

This show can be summed up as a high school "will they won't they" that's full of love triangles. Unfortunately by the end, I didn't think it was executed very well, it wasn't satisfying, and it was even a bit disappointing. The romance here isn't handled very well and if you're here for that I would say look elsewhere.

The characters for the most part were alright, but they focus all to much on the romance for everyone and it's really infuriating as it takes away form the rest of their character. The main character at first for me was really annoying and I didn't like him, but he got better as the show went on and he became my favorite.

Other than that I liked the setting and some of the lore, but it wasn't fleshed out all that much and became stale toward the end. The opening theme for the first half of the show is really good and I never skipped it. Overall I wouldn't recommend this show even though there are only 24 episodes, as I think there are plenty of better animes out there similar in length.

"The salinity will be high this afternoon at 55 parts per million..." That's the type of weather report one hears when one lives down under. We're talking waaay down under sea-level, underwater〰> Sponge Bob's neighbors. It looks like the Greek isles. Look up to watch the 🐟 🐠 🐡, which occupy the empty space overhead, instead of birds 🦈💦

That is how the Ofunehiki people live. They are human descendants of the sea god and a young girl who was sacrificed to him generations back (😮❓). People who live under the sea have a protective layer, called an Ena. It enables them to stay warm and breath under the sea. ALitS is a 2013 release that is rated 7.95 on MAL. It is 1 season consisting of 26 23-minute English dubbed episodes with CC available. It was written for TV and the 6-volume manga followed.

After their school closed, the sea kids were put in a forced busing program, so to speak, and sent to school with the land kids. Teasing, bullying, and downright prejudice are an immediate problem. The kids are manifesting the ugliness they picked up from their elders, we will learn. The school seems to be populated with girlie-girls and scrappy boys. From the land of the sea-people, the girliest girl is Mukaido Manaka. She seems fragile and in need of protection. She also seems younger than her age (typical anime lolly bs) and she's flighty, but she's loving and sincere. Kihara (Hikari) Tsumugu is Manaka's self-appointed guardian. He is always worked up, eh, angry over her. When a land-man shows interest, he's jealous. He's like a 🦑 squirting dark ink everywhere whenever anything remotely strange or scary approaches, and ANY dude coming around Manaka is SCARY! Hikari's father is the chief priest. Hiradaira Chisaki is the brunette. She's smart, responsible, and true. Isaki Kaname rounds out the group of friends. He's reasoned and measured.

Uroko is the village "wise man" though he's more of a wise-cracker and a bit of a sleaze. He might be a god or demigod, but he asserts that he's a scale from the Sea God's shoulder blade.

"Humans are quite interesting creatures, are they not? Even after being hurt and having no answers, they still struggle and continue to dream. And those feelings may change the Great Flow," is the type of thing he might say. He also gets slightly off color with the girls from time to time. He's one of the many anime characters that seem to be based on David Bowie, like Tomoe from Kamisama Kiss.

On land we'll meet Sakishima Hikari - a decent and solitary guy who is respectful to the newbies. He's interested in Manaka (🚨Hikari is on high alert!). There's plenty of characters on land, including Hisanuma Sayu and a band of bratty younger sisters who enjoy stirring up trouble. The group of friends soon learns that to mate with a land person means expulsion from the sea village. Hikari won't let that happen to Manaka!

Hikari attacks known repeat offenders when one of the sea kids' school projects is vandalized. They soon learn that he was wrong about the actual perpetrators and ended up falsely accusing another party. These are the type of mistakes we make when fear and anger take over. Chisaki's initial reaction is to keep it a secret as she wants to protect Hikari. She doesn't want to see him picked on or hurt again. Hikari's sharp elbows yield limited friends and allies. Kaname rightfully points out that lying is not the answer in this situation. It's better to get the truth over with, as continuing the LIE will only make things worse. Doing the right thing is rarely the easy thing. It's best to get used to pulling off the Band-Aid as delaying only makes it harder.

"Does becoming an adult mean you lose a lot of things?" "... that just means you need to replace those things you lost with new things" One thing we shouldn't lose is the innate certainty that all people are of equal value. Kids intrinsically know that. Prejudice is taught. Sea people believe that, due to the Sea God's weakening power, the world will freeze over. "If a kid like me can understand, then why can't the adults?" It is obvious that both Land & Sea need to work together as impending doom approaches, yet they REFUSE. Hikari is demanding answers. The seamen and the landmen are embittered against e/o and prejudice is a problem between the two groups. The problems run deeper once the crisis is imminent. Tribalism goes malignant. The seafolk's protective Ena will enable them to hibernate through the crisis. The adults of the sea believe that there's nothing they can do to save the people on the surface. They didn't seem to agonize much over it, though. Nor did they hold a problem solving session to see if there was a way to help their fellow humans. Other people's suffering is all too easy for us, sometimes. One thing is for sure: If they don't try, the surface people will not be saved. Because of their prejudices, they just don't care. But the kids care. They decide to take action.

Here's 2 groups of people that actually might be two different races, though the Ofunehiki are half human. There is only one race, the human race. The very fact that people insist on talking like different races exist is an enabling factor in the perpetuation of "racism". What we refer to as different races is merely ethnic differences. Ethnicities are just large families. In fact, DNA analysis has revealed that there are Africans with DNA that is closer to that of Europeans than that of other Africans, so what we sometimes refer to as ethnicity is merely a difference of appearance. The most common cause of racism is a lack of exposure. It's Xenophobia. And it is completely and utterly wrong. Words matter. I am trying to eliminate the usage of the word race, opting rather for the word ethnicity. The word "race" is a lie that we've all agreed to perpetuate, and this world runs on lies that we are all comfortable with. Our collective lies are typically to feed our own pride and make us feel better. Look at the destruction we have reaped because some of us insist that we are better than other humans who look differently? Don't follow the crowd on this one: Let it go. It isn't real.

One thing that is not good about ALITS is how it takes a horrific practice (virgin sacrifice) and makes it look quaint. Additionally, as with an overabundance of anime shows, ALitS would be perfect for tweens but for some scattered sexual references and colorful language. What rankles is how it's wedged into the show and awkwardly out of place. The instances almost seem like ads that flash and say to the viewer: "This isn't a kids show. You aren't immature for watching this. This is for grown viewers." Isn't that just a tad pathetic? The term for it, "fan service" hails back to a time where p0rn wasn't available at the click of a couple buttons. Viewers wanted their titillations. None of that is necessary, now. Anime can free itself from that obligation and simply make good shows. I happen to think Castlevania-8.4 is an expertly crafted show and it is loaded with sex, gore, violence, and foul language. (I also happen to understand why East Asian anime is portioned out from the rest of the world's cartoons, but I don't have the energy to differentiate. They co-opted it from from us in the postwar era, and then we borrowed back from them. The group effort has yielded spectacular results.) Same for Blue Eyed Samurai-9 and Psycho Pass-8.6. They are for a mature audience only. I also love Trollhunters-9.5, which is a show that is perfect, as is, and is appropriate for tweens (the worst thing that is said is "butt snack."). Foul language and sexual banter between the characters would be entirely out of character for that show and, more importantly, would not improve it. ALitS is a family show that they've pretty much ruined for family viewing. It actually is a poor business model.

The art is beautiful. The backgrounds are spectacular. The sea is full of mesmerizing sights and overflowing with color. The concept is interesting and innovative, but the show could be a little bit better. Many of the girls are interested in Hikari, but he's actually a difficult person. They don't sell him as a strong romantic lead, even though he feels quite intensely. All the one-sided crushes and the overflow of emotions are a little bit much.

Most of the sea people do opt for hibernation. Hibernation. It's similar to cryogenics as it freezes one's growth: Wake up, one is the same age as when s/he went to sleep. Everyone else is older. Now, Hikari the same age as his sister's stepdaughter. (She's thrilled). An interesting quandary surfaces: If someone lost their memory of being in love along with the ability to fall in love, should you tell h/h?

ALITS passes the time well enough, but it could-should have been better. I started hopeful but by the last third of the show I was half-into it and half tolerating it and half-hibernating. It's it worth watching once? I'm totally out to sea on that question. If you have plenty of extra time on your hands, then yes, it is. If you don't, there's much better things that should take precedence in one's watch priorities.

Age + Sexual banter level 3 or 4 - There's a snarky demigod that makes improper comments to one of the girls, but nothing overt. Almost every episode has one sexual reference. Not one bit of it enhances the show. Language: PG-13 but there isn't much of that. Rated TV-PG-13:

I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT STAND THE MAIN CHARACTER. HE IS SO RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS. THE STORY WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER WITHOUT HIM AND THAT ANNOYING LITTLE GIRL WITH BLONDE PIGTAILS. ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE YOUR REGULAR CLICHE TYPE. YOU GOT THE RUDE GUY WHO THINKS HES TOUGH AND THAT HE CAN FIGHT EVERYONE. THEN THERES AN ANNOYING DAMSEL IN DISTRESS. THE TWO OTHERS NO ONE CARES MUCH FOR CAUSE THEY HAVE NO PERSONALITY. THEN YOU HAVE THE "QUIET", TOO MATURE FOR HIS AGE GUY THAT ALL THE GIRLS IN THE SCHOOL WANT. WHO IS ALSO AN ORHAN BEING RAISED BY A GRANDPARENT. MY GOD ITS SO PREDICTABLE IT MAKES MY SKIN CRAWL.

I did not have fun watching Nagi no Asukara .

There is a group of people who lives under the sea which leads to conflict with surface dwellers which was interesting but character were too annoying.

Protagonist is kinda annoying.

Actually every character looked pathetic to me, people who can't pull thier weight in though situation that's what each one looked like.

Protagonist was very forceful in regards to romance which makes me empathetic towards the girl.

Animation was top notch . Background sounds were good.

Underwater scene were stunning.

If you ask me to watch it please don't.

Anime was stretched out, every episode each character sulking for thier crush accept Thier feelings which is totally annoying .

In another words there is no romance but a drama series that revolves around accept of romance which is not covered for the entire series.

It's anime original dome wrong.
