Just discovered this on Amazon Prime. Anyone who loved Fraiser and Martin will enjoy this show.. I'm really sad it's only one season. I binged watched all 10 episodes and was hungry for season 2. If you want classic comedy with a great cast this is a good one.
This could have been Kelsey Grammar little summer show. And indeed - the 5 points I have given this show are all his.
But thus lies the problem. Grammar is such a great actor, he overshadows everyone else. It reminds of of Star Trek:TNG and Patrick Stewart performance; Grammar does the same here. It's basically old-Fraser again, but this time his is a lawyer. I love watching Grammar at work, and it is a great shame that his previous show 'Boss' was cancelled - what a huge mistake.
The other problem with the show is Grammar counter-part, Martin Lawrence. This is a travesty of miscast here. Lawrence is exceedingly poor, his comic timing is so off it is actually quite sad. He is no much for Grammar who steps all over him. Seriously bad casting.
The other actors are mediocre to typical. They do not help the show at all in my eyes, and I can actually see this show would have been much better with a better cast. I say: fire the cast director!
The stories are again quite sloppy and the dialogue really quite dismal. I do not understand how Grammar was convinced to do this project. He is so much better than this.
Disappointed with the show, less disappointed with Grammar, who's always great.

Basically, what do you expect, a reinvention of the wheel?
OK - bugbears for the downside. It's multicamera, it's got canned laughter , it's copycat formulaic of the oddcouple/buddy/fish out of water clichés. It's got one absolute dog of a character (the stepdaughter, who is like Lindsay Lohan stamping on Hilary Banks' comedic memory). Typical family scenario and ridiculously convoluted family situation, etc etc.
Watch it anyway. It's Kelsey goddamn grammar doing a sitcom again. He still has it. Secondly this character of his is essentially just a hard ass version of Frasier Crane. Martin Lawrence is absolutely foil in this show apparently centred around him, plot wise, but this is all about Grammar. The two have undoubtedly shown promise in some of their opening exchanges.
If the show is extended, and the budget and production values go up, as well as crass jokes about things like suicide in the week of Robin Williams' death being cut by someone who aims to show they understand the job description over at the 'Quality Control' department this could have legs.
It's better than two and a half men....... and it's not a 5.4 . I've given it an 8 or potential, but it's really a 7. Just fighting the power maaaaan

Martin and Kelsey are hilarious and play off each other superbly. I am shocked this didn't last several seasons instead of just one. Really enjoyable team up with classic sitcom vibe and smart writing.
Chemistry between Grammer and Lawrence not bad. This show plays like so many sitcoms that try really hard. Canned laughter very distracting.
